History retweeting itself: imperial feminist appropriations of “Bring Back Our Girls”

Racist and imperialist narratives have long underpinned White and “Northern”/“Western” feminists’ representations of people of color and of Africans. Through textual analysis, this essay places Bring Back Our Girls—the recent campaign to locate and return 276 abducted Nigerian students—in the context of this troubled history. Within the Global North, both the appropriation and abandonment of Bring Back Our Girls fundamentally relied upon a conceptual framework rooted in imperialist and racist histories. By revealing the imbrication of the international campaign in existing power relations, this project challenges the assertion that digital campaigns are technologically determined or “outside” history.

Health staus is of primary importance in determining the lifestyle of older persons, in contrast to other periods of life, in which socio-economic status is of major significance. Research is presented on an alternative living arrangement in Florida for the slightly dependent elderly, in which older persons share living facilities and other aspects of a common lifestyle. This comprises one set of realistic alternatives which can be workable, economical, energy-conserving, and fulfilling in terms of the quality of life.     

The development and field testing of a vocational education evaluation model

Reported is the development and field testing of an evaluation model used to evaluate the vocational education programs at the Metropolitan Community Colleges (MCC) of Kansas City, Missouri which can be implemented on vocational programs at other institutions. The model evaluated a vocational program on the following six criteria: (1) program's relationship to job market profile; (2) program's level of community support; (3) program's success in meeting vocational aspirations of clientele; (4) program's success in terms of student performance; (5) program 's cost-effectiveness; and (6) program 's success in reaching the handicapped and disadvantaged. The evaluation model provides a strategy and a set of procedures for assessing the quality of existing vocational education programs of study at any post-secondary institution. The model can be easily and inexpensively implemented, thus providing a data base which is useful for administrative planning and decision making.     

A MULTIVARIATE MODEL OF JOB STRESS AND ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION

Although a significant relationship between job stress and alcohol consumption would seem quite logical, it has in fact received limited empirical support. A multi-variate model is developed in this article, in which the relationship between job stress and alcohol consumption is assumed to be mediated by beliefs regarding the efficacy of alcohol to relieve stress. Considerable support for this model is demonstrated, and the implications for practice as well as research are discussed.

Along with the well-known leadership traits, there are some subtle characteristics of true leaders. Managing managers, making decisions, tolerating diversity, and showing a sense of humor are other marks of leadership that physician executives should possess.
