This paper presents a scheduling algorithm to solve flowshop problems with a common job sequence on all machines. This algorithm uses makespan as its criterion. Initially, it chooses a preferred sequence by scanning the processing times matrix and making a few calculations. The makespan time of the preferred job-sequence is further reduced by using an improvement routine that allows interchanges between adjacent jobs. Solutions of 1200 problems are compared with the best solutions previously reported for corresponding size problems in the Campbell-Dudek-Smith (C-D-S) paper [1]. This algorithm offers up to 1% average improvement in reducing the makespan of nearly 50% of the problem sets over the results of the existing algorithms, and its computational time requirements are about one-fifth of that of the C-D-S algorithm.  相似文献

In the analysis of experiments with mixtures, quadratic models have been widely used. The optimum designs for the estimation of optimum mixing proportions in a quadratic mixture model have been studied by Pal and Mandal [Optimum designs for optimum mixtures. Statist Probab Lett. 2006;76:1369–1379] and Mandal et al. [Optimum mixture designs: a pseudo-Bayesian approach. J Ind Soc Agric Stat. 2008;62(2):174–182; Optimum mixture designs under constraints on mixing components. Statist Appl. 2008;6(1&2) (New Series): 189–205], using a pseudo-Bayesian approach. In this paper, a similar approach has been employed to obtain the A-optimal designs for the estimation of optimum proportions in an additive quadratic mixture model, proposed by Darroch and Waller [Additivity and interaction in three-component experiments with mixture. Biometrika. 1985;72:153–163], when the number of components is 3, 4 and 5. It has been shown that the vertices of the simplex are necessarily the support points of the optimum design, and the other support points include barycentres of depth at most 2.  相似文献

This paper presents network models to determine the optimal replacement policy for a fleet of vehicles over a finite planning horizon. First, a minimum cost-flow model is developed to determine the optimal replacement schedule for a fleet of fixed size consisting of a single type of vehicle of various ages. The model is then extended to allow for restrictions on capital expenditures that limit the purchase of new vehicles in any time period and to allow for fluctuations in the fleet size due to planned expansion or retrenchment. Finally, a multi-commodity network model is developed for a fleet consisting of multiple vehicle types and ages.  相似文献

We consider Khamis' (1960) Laguerre expansion with gamma weight function as a class of “near-gamma” priors (K-prior) to obtain the Bayes predictor of a finite population mean under the Poisson regression superpopulation model using Zellner's balanced loss function (BLF). Kullback–Leibler (K-L) distance between gamma and some K-priors is tabulated to examine the quantitative prior robustness. Some numerical investigations are also conducted to illustrate the effects of a change in skewness and/or kurtosis on the Bayes predictor and the corresponding minimal Bayes predictive expected loss (MBPEL). Loss robustness with respect to the class of BLFs is also examined in terms of relative savings loss (RSL).  相似文献

This paper addresses the problem of detecting a mixture of parallel regression lines when information about group member¬ship of individual cases is not given. The problem is approached as a missing variable problem, with the missing variables being the dummy variables that code for groups. If a mixture of par¬allel regression lines with normally distributed error terms is present, a simple regression model without dummy variables will produce residuals that follow approximately a mixed normal dis¬tribution. In a simulation studyr several goodness-of-fit tests of normality were used to test the residuals obtained from mis-specified models that excluded dummy variables, Factors varied in the simulation included the number and the separation of the parallel lines and the sample size, The goodness-of-fit test based on the sample kurtosis (82) was overall most powerful in detecting mixtures of parallel regression lines, Applications are discussed.  相似文献

The economic impact of emigration on the source country is analyzed through a literature review and a discussion of costs, benefits, and public policy implications. It is noted that "information collected from different sources and settings is needed for cross-validation of assessments and conclusions. Second....the cost/benefit analysis of emigration should be undertaken on a case by case basis. Third...these costs and benefits must be assessed in a long-term framework that considers the socio-economic conditions and the goals of the country....Fourth, effective governmental policies...need to recognize that emigrants generally are highly motivated people [who] are adept at overcoming legal or other obstacles in their path." This article deals with residual treatment effects designs for the purpose of comparing v test treatments with a control treatment when the number of periods is no larger than v + 1. Control balanced residual treatment effects designs, which are Schur-optimal, are considered. Some methods of their construction are given.  相似文献

In this article, we consider Bayes prediction in a finite population under the simple location error-in-variables superpopulation model. Bayes predictor of the finite population mean under Zellner's balanced loss function and the corresponding relative losses and relative savings loss are derived. The prior distribution of the unknown location parameter of the model is assumed to have a non-normal distribution belonging to the class of Edgeworth series distributions. Effects of non normality of the “true” prior distribution and that of a possible misspecification of the loss function on the Bayes predictor are illustrated for a hypothetical population.  相似文献

In this article, we derive optimum designs for parameter estimation in a mixture experiment when the response function is linear in the mixing components with some synergistic effects. The D- and A-optimality criteria have been used for the purpose. The Equivalence Theorem has been used to check for the optimality of the proposed designs.  相似文献
