This article discusses the results of a 1993 national survey of undergraduate social work program directors on the role of alumni in their programs. Respondents indicated that they involved alumni, primarily as field supervisors, campus speakers, and members of curriculum advisory boards. Only 20% of respondents reported social work-specific alumni organizations; most often these were institutions with public affiliations, joint MSW-BSW program structures, and enrollments exceeding 10,000. Having a social work alumni organization was associated with higher rates of alumni participation in field supervision, mentoring, linkage and networking activities, recruitment, and curriculum advisory boards. A profile of the typical social work alumni organization is presented, and the need for more programs to initiate such organizations is examined. 相似文献

In this paper we examine a range of issues related to the analysis of health surveillance data when it is spatially-referenced. The importance of considering alarm functions derived from likelihood or Bayesian models is stressed. In addition, we focus on some new developments in predictive distribution residuals in the analysis. 相似文献

With nearly 40 million foreign-born residents, the United States is the country with the largest immigrant population in the world (Nwosu, Batalova, & Auclair, 2014). This amounts to 13% of the current US population and has fueled debates about the role of immigrants in American society and about what it means to be American (Batalova & Lee, 2012; Hing, 2004). The issue of immigrant integration is at the center of this debate and is also the focus of this study, which examines immigrant integration in two U.S. cities: San Francisco, California and Chicago, Illinois. This study is part of a larger 2007 multi-country study of immigrant integration practices conducted by CeiMigra, a migration research institute based in Valencia, Spain. This study analyzes data collected in the two U.S. study sites, which consists of 19 extensive qualitative interviews with politicians, policy makers, labor leaders, and nongovernment (NGO) and migrant association leaders regarding issues that affect and strategies that facilitate immigrant integration. The interviewees identified two primary points of integration: the economy and local communities. Common barriers affecting both documented and undocumented immigrants were identified, as well as local strategies that promote integration into the economy and the community. Study participants noted the burden on local communities to address immigrant incorporation and called for stronger and more systematic integration programs and policies at the federal level. 相似文献

This study of the major dimensions of actions undertaken by the labor union for household employees in Rio de Janeiro shows how the new “social rights” extended to these personal service workers has led to a new sense of what is “fair” and to an increase in lawsuits with employers. Given its place in labor relations courts, the union's position is ambivalent. Light is shed on the tensions between various categories of persons who visit the union's offices — tensions that tell us much about social relations. Attention is then turned to this small organization's role in labor courts: after cases have been heard, household employees often have a feeling that their rights have been upheld. 相似文献

The effect of emigration on human capital formation 总被引:14,自引:2,他引:14

This paper focuses on a possible effect of emigration on human capital formation. Emigration to a higher returns to skill
country provides an incentive to invest in human capital. The level of human capital formation in the source country can therefore
be positively correlated with the probability of emigration. Incidentally a surge in emigration can lead the source country
out of an under-development trap. The implications of the model for the convergence controversy are also discussed.
