A biclustering algorithm for binary matrices based on penalized Bernoulli likelihood

We propose a new biclustering method for binary data matrices using the maximum penalized Bernoulli likelihood estimation. Our method applies a multi-layer model defined on the logits of the success probabilities, where each layer represents a simple bicluster structure and the combination of multiple layers is able to reveal complicated, multiple biclusters. The method allows for non-pure biclusters, and can simultaneously identify the 1-prevalent blocks and 0-prevalent blocks. A computationally efficient algorithm is developed and guidelines are provided for specifying the tuning parameters, including initial values of model parameters, the number of layers, and the penalty parameters. Missing-data imputation can be handled in the EM framework. The method is tested using synthetic and real datasets and shows good performance.

“文化产业”作为当前经济活动的一个重要概念，在城市经济活动中发挥着越来越重要的影响。巴黎作为法国的历史、文化、经济中心，其“文化产业”从20世纪70年代以来随着城市经济的转型呈现蓬勃发展的势头。进入21世纪，巴黎“文化产业”的领域与空间也在不断变化与扩展。本文将试图对巴黎“文化产业”的发展作一梳理，以期对其“文化产业”的发展面貌作一阐释。     

从思辩到实验:哲学研究方法的革新

尽管哲学与科学的研究目标不同,但随着科学研究手段的不断发展,科学实验方法也已经引入到了哲学研究之中.本文就是在此背景下,着重介绍目前哲学研究中的实验方法,包括保留思辨性质的思想实验、引入计算技术的仿真试验、以及采用测量仪器的真实实验.从本文介绍的具体内容不难发现,哲学上的实验方法具有非常广泛的应用范围,并在哲学研究中,发挥越来越重要的作用,具有传统方法无法替代的价值.因此,我们希望通过这样的系统介绍,能够比较全面地阐述哲学实验方法的基本途径和重要意义,从而引起国内哲学界对这一新的研究方法的关注.     

Data availability in accounting research: Some evidence

The data availability policy of the American Accounting Association is examined to address two research questions: (1) Are data dependent results in The Accounting Review readily available for further inquiry and dissemination of accounting knowledge? (2) What are the potential factors that may account for the availability or the lack of data? Several potential factors including job rank, number of revisions before acceptance, source of data, and funding source are suggested to account for the lack of data availability. The results indicate that, in general, authors are not willing to make their data available to others. We conclude by suggesting some options that may ameliorate the situation.
