There is growing consensus that overall alliance termination rates are high. However, despite this track record of termination and despite unsurpassed growth rates of strategic technology alliances, little is known about the reasons for their termination. Typically strategic alliances have been characterized as inherently instable, i.e. often involving unplanned and premature termination of the alliance by partnering firms indicating alliance failure. The literature on strategic technology alliances, however, proposes that alliance termination does not always indicate failure, but can be intended and can be a sign of strength. We examine these different perceptions by using a sample of 48 strategic technology alliances in different high-technology industries. The findings in the paper confirm that the rates of termination are rather high for strategic technology alliances. Overall, we found that in particular negative prospects about future cooperation, negative perceptions about joint benefits and the lack of a win-win situation had an impact on the decision to terminate a strategic technology alliance. Also, the fact that some companies opt only for short-term (not for long-term and renewed) cooperation seems to introduce a negative factor into the longevity of strategic technology alliances. 相似文献

The present study examined the effectiveness of educational interventions in altering tolerance for and behavioral intentions of elder abuse among college student young adults. Participants were 225 undergraduates who were assigned to one of four educational groups: Elder Abuse Education, Aging Education, Family Education, and a Pre- and Posttest only condition. While the Elder Abuse Education group reported less tolerance and intentions for elder abuse compared to the other groups at the immediate posttest, a decrement in such positive changes at 1-month follow-up was observed in such persons. These mixed findings suggest that while specific interventions may reduce elder abuse tolerance, supplemental educational efforts over time may be necessary to maintain intervention-specific gains in intentions and behaviors particular to elder abuse. 相似文献

The Stockport Diploma in Social Work (DSW) has developed an employment-based route, which derives from the experience of operating the Greater Manchester Certificate in Social Service since 1975. The article describes some of the key issues which have been faced by the programme partnership in its first year of operation. These include organising the direct observation of students' practice, recognising the role change and demands made of practice teachers, and promoting the involvement of job supervisors in the assessment process, within the framework of CCETSW Paper 30. Difficulties in devising an effective means of assessing students' competency are explored, together with the underlying resourcing constraints which now face DSW partnerships. What variables should be used as regressors in models of the length of time which people spend doing unpaid domestic work? To most economists, the answer would be straightforward: use the variables which are implied by a theoretical model of household time allocation (e.g. Becker's). This paper shows that this strategy has not been followed, explores why this is so, and makes some recommendations about variable specification and the treatment of paid market work time in particular. Although their premise is correct, they over-state the power of their methodology. The error stems from a misunderstanding of how persons entitled to both primary and secondary social security benefits are classified in program data. This study uses both quantitative and qualitative methods to investigate how a range of care arrangement decisions for frail older unmarried women are made. Quantitative data from the 1989 National Long-Term Care Survey provides information concerning factors that predict the probability of five categories of care arrangements, including self only care, nursing home care, informal only care, formal only care, and a mix of formal and informal care. Qualitative interview data provides information on what occurs during care arrangement decision-making processes. Results are combined to explain the choice of care arrangements for a small sample of chronically disabled older unmarried women. Results show that need factors, such as age and disability, are strong predictors of the need for assistance. Family members played a central role in determining care arrangements and often helped an older woman to avoid an unwanted care arrangement. The use of a broad measure of impairment resulted in high levels of disability for the sample participants. Both disability status and care arrangements were transitory in nature. 相似文献
