The use of graphical methods for comparing the quality of prediction throughout the design space of an experiment has been explored extensively for responses modeled with standard linear models. In this paper, fraction of design space (FDS) plots are adapted to evaluate designs for generalized linear models (GLMs). Since the quality of designs for GLMs depends on the model parameters, initial parameter estimates need to be provided by the experimenter. Consequently, an important question to consider is the design's robustness to user misspecification of the initial parameter estimates. FDS plots provide a graphical way of assessing the relative merits of different designs under a variety of types of parameter misspecification. Examples using logistic and Poisson regression models with their canonical links are used to demonstrate the benefits of the FDS plots.  相似文献

Research into the management of professional service quality, other than in health care, has been very limited, despite being particularly problematical. This paper focuses on the interactive, highly customized and labour-intensive service offered by solicitors to their commercial and corporate clients. The intangible nature of legal services, the natures of the professionals themselves and the firms within which they operate, and the perceptions of risk brought to the service by the client create additional difficulties in managing the service and measuring client perceptions of it. Yet solicitors must understand the requirements of the group of clients they seek to serve in order to design their service to match those needs. Clients have to assume the technical competence of their solicitor. Moreover, they seek confidence when buying legal services. Our research, therefore, sought to gain an understanding of the process used by commercial and corporate clients when evaluating legal service, and of the factors that are key drivers in the creation of confidence.  相似文献

Objective. The objective of this article is to examine the degree to which populist features of state governments affect minority interests, particularly gays, lesbians, and bisexuals (GLB) Method. We examine the effects of specific institutional features that affect state government responsiveness to majority preferences on GLB policies: bans on same‐sex marriage and hate crime. We also control for variations in political environment. Results. Features that increase popular control over policy making and policymakers advance anti‐GLB policies but have little effect on pro‐GLB policies; however, legislative term limits have the opposite effect. Further, constituency size and senators' term length increases both types of policies. Conclusions. The findings indicate that an unpopular minority is likely to be harmed by populist features that increase the role of citizens and may be helped by features that shield legislators from majoritarian preferences.  相似文献

Denecke and Müller (CSDA 55:2724–2738, 2011) presented an estimator for the correlation coefficient based on likelihood depth for Gaussian copula and Denecke and Müller (J Stat Planning Inference 142: 2501–2517, 2012) proved a theorem about the consistency of general estimators based on data depth using uniform convergence of the depth measure. In this article, the uniform convergence of the depth measure for correlation is shown so that consistency of the correlation estimator based on depth can be concluded. The uniform convergence is shown with the help of the extension of the Glivenko-Cantelli Lemma by Vapnik- C? ervonenkis classes.  相似文献

Objectives. This article considers how becoming a father affects men's employment levels and tests whether the effects of fatherhood differ by the relationship of the father to the child's mother at the time of the birth. Methods. We use data from the Fragile Families and Child Wellbeing Study to fit growth curve models of new fathers' employment trajectories for the first five years after they become fathers. Results. Prior to becoming a father, married men worked more hours per week and more weeks per year than cohabiting and nonresident fathers. By five years after the birth, differences in employment between unmarried and married fathers had diminished. Conclusions. The transition to fatherhood is associated with an increase in employment for unmarried fathers but is not associated with significant changes in employment for married fathers.  相似文献

This article examines the aerospace defense sector and the national export control regime within which U.S. corporations operate. While the U.S. federal government plays many roles in this industry, the focus here is on its role as regulator of defense exports from the United States. From this vantage point, ten case studies illustrate the difficulties faced by companies in this challenging environment, and highlight factors that lead to noncompliance with U.S. government regulations. Firm performance effects are investigated, including impacts on profits, share price, and reputation. The paper concludes with implications for international management practice and international business research that reflect realities in the aerospace defense sector.  相似文献

Myers-Briggs Type Indicator — a useful tool for coaching and career counseling to identify clients giftsFor career counseling and coaching procedures the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator has proved a sound and well-designed instrument. As such it is a useful and effective tool which allows me to assess and analyze a client’s position. The four categories of personality styles yield a broad spectrum of insights and are subtly differentiating. The premises of the MBTI are the uniqueness of the individual and the respect for individual differences. Focussing on this premises and based on concepts originated by C.G. Jung this indicator establishes categories of cognitive functions. These will enable a client to gain a better perception of herself or himself and enhance her or his understanding of others. It is necessary, however, to embed the results of the indicator into a context of counseling goals, and for the benefit of a client solid counseling skills of the coach are essential. Provides these conditions, the indicator will support a client’s professional and personal development and can be used to demonstrate issues of work coordination and cooperation. Especially disputes become more matter of fact. The non-judgemental language of the Jungian concepts allows self esteem to grow and de-escalates conflicts.
