The problem of estimation of the parameters in a logistic regression model is considered under multicollinearity situation when it is suspected that the parameter of the logistic regression model may be restricted to a subspace. We study the properties of the preliminary test based on the minimum ϕ -divergence estimator as well as in the ϕ -divergence test statistic. The minimum ϕ -divergence estimator is a natural extension of the maximum likelihood estimator and the ϕ -divergence test statistics is a family of the test statistics for testing the hypothesis that the regression coefficients may be restricted to a subspace.  相似文献

Calculating exact values of the Prokhorov metric for the set of probability distributions on a metric space is a challenging problem. In this paper probability distributions are approximated by finite-support distributions through optimal or quasi-optimal quantization, in such a way that exact calculation of the Prokhorov distance between a distribution and a quantizer can be performed. The exact value of the Prokhorov distance between two quantizers is obtained by solving an optimization problem through the Simplex method. This last value is used to approximate the Prokhorov distance between the two initial distributions, and the accuracy of the approximation is measured. We illustrate the method on various univariate and bivariate probability distributions. Approximation of bivariate standard normal distributions by quasi-optimal quantizers is also considered.  相似文献

Analysing a 2 2 2 table is one of the most frequent problems in applied research (particularly in epidemiology). When the table arises from a 2 2 2 multinomial trial (or the case of double dichotomy), the appropriate test for independence is an unconditional one, like those of Barnard (1947), which, although they date from a long time ago, have not been developed (because of computational problems) until the last ten years. Among the different possible versions, the optimal (Martín Andrés & Tapia Garcia, 1999) is Barnard's original one, but the calculation time (even today) is excessive. This paper offers critical region tables for that version, which behave well compared to those of Shuster (1992). The tables are of particular use for researchers wishing to obtain significant results for very small sample sizes (N h 50).  相似文献

Bayesian decision problems require subjective elicitation of the inputs: beliefs and preferences. Sometimes, elicitation methods may not represent perfectly the judgements of the decision maker. Several foundations propose to overlay this problem using robust approaches. In these models, beliefs are modelled by a class of probability distributions and preferences by a class of loss functions. Then, we are in the conditions of a Pareto order. Hence the solution concept is the set of non dominated alternatives. In this article we focus on the computation of the efficient set when the preferences are modeled by a class of convex loss functions.  相似文献

We consider an extended family of asymmetric univariate distributions generated using a symmetric density, f, and the cumulative distribution function, G, of a symmetric distribution, which depends on two real-valued parameters λ and β and is such that when β = 0 it includes the entire class of distributions with densities of the form g(z | λ) = 2 Gz) f(z). A key element in the construction of random variables distributed according to the family is that they can be represented stochastically as the product of two random variables. From this representation we can readily derive theoretical properties, easy-to-implement simulation schemes, as well as extensions to the multivariate case and an explicit procedure for obtaining the moments. We give special attention to the extended skew-exponential power distribution. We derive its information matrix in order to obtain the asymptotic covariance matrix of the maximum likelihood estimators. Finally, an application to a real data set is reported, which shows that the extended skew-exponential power model can provide a better fit than the skew-exponential power distribution.  相似文献

This article deals with Bayes factors as useful Bayesian tools in frequentist testing of a precise hypothesis. A result and several examples are included to justify the definition of Bayes factor for point null hypotheses, without merging the initial distribution with a degenerate distribution on the null hypothesis. Of special interest is the problem of testing a proportion (joint with a natural criterion to compare different tests), the possible presence of nuisance parameters, or the influence of Bayesian sufficiency on this problem. The problem of testing a precise hypothesis under a Bayesian perspective is also considered and two alternative methods to deal with are given.  相似文献

This article is devoted to a presentation of the author' practice of the non-parametric estimation theory for the estimation, filtering, and control of uncertain dynamic systems. The fundamental advantage of this approach is a weak dependency on prior modeling assumptions about uncertain dynamic components. This approach appears to be of great interest for the control of general discrete-time processes, and in particular, biotechnological processes, which are emblematic of nonlinear uncertain and partially observed systems.  相似文献

Recently, the field of multiple hypothesis testing has experienced a great expansion, basically because of the new methods developed in the field of genomics. These new methods allow scientists to simultaneously process thousands of hypothesis tests. The frequentist approach to this problem is made by using different testing error measures that allow to control the Type I error rate at a certain desired level. Alternatively, in this article, a Bayesian hierarchical model based on mixture distributions and an empirical Bayes approach are proposed in order to produce a list of rejected hypotheses that will be declared significant and interesting for a more detailed posterior analysis. In particular, we develop a straightforward implementation of a Gibbs sampling scheme where all the conditional posterior distributions are explicit. The results are compared with the frequentist False Discovery Rate (FDR) methodology. Simulation examples show that our model improves the FDR procedure in the sense that it diminishes the percentage of false negatives keeping an acceptable percentage of false positives.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this paper we propose a new non parametric estimator of the spectral matrix of a multivariate stationary stochastic process, with the main goal to locally improve the deficiencies of the smoothed periodogram in terms of mean square error of the estimates. Our estimator is based on a convex linear combination of the frequency averaged periodogram and an estimate of the true mean spectral matrix across frequencies. In a wide simulation study we show that our estimator turns out to be able to markedly improve the frequency averaged periodogram especially at central frequencies.  相似文献
