Research on production systems design has in recent years tended to concentrate on ‘software’ factors such as organisational aspects, work design, and the planning of the production operations. In contrast, relatively little attention has been paid to maximising the contributions made by fixed assets, particularly machines and equipment. However, as the cost of unproductive machine time has increased, reliability, particularly of machine tools, has become ever more important. Reliability theory and research has traditionally been based in the main on electrical and electronic equipment whereas mechanical devices, especially machine tools, have not received sufficiently objective treatment. A recently completed research project has considered the reliability of machine tools by taking sample surveys of purchasers, maintainers and manufacturers. Breakdown data were also collected from a number of engineering companies and analysed using both manual and computer techniques. Results obtained have provided an indication of those factors most likely to influence reliability and which in turn could lead to improved design and selection of machine tool systems. Statistical analysis of long-term field data has revealed patterns of trends of failure which could help in the design of more meaningful maintenance schemes. 相似文献

This study examined whether children clinically referred for gender dysphoria (GD) show increased symptoms of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Circumscribed preoccupations or intense interests were considered as overlapping symptoms expressed in GD and ASD. In gender-referred children (n = 534; 82.2% male) and their siblings (n = 419; 57.5% male), we examined Items 9 and 66 on the Child Behavior Checklist, which measure obsessions and compulsions, respectively. Non-GD clinic-referred (n = 1,201; 48.5% male) and nonreferred (n = 1,201; 48.5% male) children were also examined. Gender-referred children were elevated compared to all other groups for Item 9, and compared to siblings and nonreferred children for Item 66. A gender-related theme was significantly more common for gender-referred boys than male siblings on Item 9 only. A gender-related theme was not significantly more common for gender-referred girls compared to their female siblings on either item. The findings for Item 9 support the idea that children with GD show an elevation in obsessional interests. For gender-referred boys in particular, gender-related themes constituted more than half of the examples provided by their mothers. Conventional wisdom holds that private sector labor unions are in “crisis” due to the loss of millions of members over the
past two decades which has resulted in a dramatic decline in their economic viability and political power. Financial data
for selected years between 1960 and 1987 are analyzed to show that, contrary to prevailing opinion, private sector unions
are financially prosperous despite membership erosion. Evidence is also presented which indicates that union political efforts
and influence have increased rather than declined in recent years. Resources have been allocated to political advocacy to
obtain a more favorable public policy environment for labor organizations and to achieve gains that have eluded unions in
collective bargaining.

IV. Conclusion Growing employee awareness of the degree to which their personal privacy is compromised in the workplace, particularly
with regards to information/telecommunicatton-system use and work monitoring, has created an organizational and political
climate that may yield significant restrictions on employee monitoring and on how employers maintain and distribute employees’
personal information. While both federal and state governments have generally deferred to the right of the employer-as-owner
to set conditions of employment that may include intrusions into employee privacy (Grodin, 1991), a number of statutory restrictions
have been promulgated or proposed that will significantly expand employee privacy rights in the workplace. Additionally, it
is probable that unions will aggressively assert employee privacy rights within the context of collective bargaining, potentially

Conclusion Clearly, all of these changes represent a significant change in the current context of employment law; however, in a work
context in which traditional roles and working relationships have radically evolved, it is difficult to see the value of continuing
to enforce an employment law policy on the basis of distinctions long-passed from the organizational landscape. Equally clearly,
there will be a difference of opinion among the parties to employment law as to the imperative for change. Employers will
generally see their interests in the perpetuation of the status quo; while it may not be optimal, it is predictable and they
have learned to live with it. Employees on the other hand, should see a clear mandate for changes that would solidify the
