This study examined key components of the “New Look” at the imaginary audience and personal fable constructs. Toward this end, data from four samples of Belgian high school students (N= 1,458) were analyzed. Confirmatory and exploratory factor analyses failed to confirm that the measures associated with the New Look theory, the New Imaginary Audience Scale, and the New Personal Fable Scale (NPFS), tapped a common underlying construct. Only the invulnerability and omnipotence subscales of the NPFS proved to be highly related. In line with the New Look theory, boys were found to believe more strongly in their own uniqueness, invulnerability, and omnipotence than were girls. Higher scores on the invulnerability and omnipotence subscales were associated with lower levels of depression and loneliness. Finally, each aspect of the personal fable seemed to have its own specific role in the process of separation – individuation. Implications of these findings for the New Look theory of the imaginary audience and the personal fable are discussed. Suggestions for future research are put forth, with particular emphasis on the role of the invulnerability/omnipotence complex in adolescent development and behavior and on the family resemblances among the various aspects of the personal fable.  相似文献

Copulas and frailty models are important tools to model bivariate survival data. Equivalence between Archimedean copula models and shared frailty models, e.g. between the Clayton-Oakes copula model and the shared gamma frailty model, has often been claimed in the literature. In this note we show that, in both the models, there is indeed a well-known equivalence between the copula functions; the modeling of the marginal survival functions, however, is quite different. The latter fact leads to different joint survival functions.  相似文献

Consider the problem of aggregating preferences. A coalition is manipulative if it is able to force the outcome of the aggregation process. In the framework of topological aggregation (due to Chichilnisky) the family of manipulative coalitions constitutes an ultrafilter. This result holds for finite and for infinite populations, and supports the analogy between the Chichilnisky and the Arrovian aggregation model.This text presents research results of the Belgian Programme of Interuniversity Poles of Attraction initiated under the Science Policy Programmes of the Prime Ministers Office, Belgium. The correlation structure imposed on multivariate time to event data is often of a simple nature, such as in the shared frailty model where pairwise correlations between event times in a cluster are all the same. In modeling the infection times of the four udder quarters clustered within the cow, more complex correlation structures are possibly required, and if so, such more complex correlation structures give more insight in the infection process. In this article, we will choose a marginal approach to study more complex correlation structures, therefore leaving the modeling of marginal distributions unaffected by the association parameters. The dependency of failure times will be induced through copula functions. The methods are shown for (mixtures of) the Clayton copula, but can be generalized to mixtures of Archimedean copulas for which the nesting conditions are met (McNeil in J Stat Comput Simul 6:567–581, 2008; Hofert in Comput Stat Data Anal 55:57–70, 2011).  相似文献
