Do we have what it takes to put all students on the graduation path?

According to current estimates, more than a quarter of all students and over 40 percent of African American and Hispanic students do not graduate from high school on time. The vast majority of those young people who do not graduate with their peers drop out. The enormous costs to these individuals, their communities, and our society require us to invest in systems that accurately identify young people at risk of dropping out and provide the supports necessary to keep them on track to graduation. This chapter offers a framework for action that calls on communities to identify the scale and scope of the dropout problem and understand why students disengage from school; transform or replace low-performing schools; install early warning and multitiered response systems that provide comprehensive, targeted, and intensive supports to students in and out of school; establish supportive policies and resource allocations; and build community will and capacity so positive changes are deeply implemented and sustained.

现代农业或农业产业化,取得了令人瞩目的成就,但它是不可持续的,不能在今后的100年继续发展.中国已做好准备发展一种在社会及环境方面都很和谐的农业,即农业生态学.农业生态学的基本需求是:环境上可持续,有益于公正和社会和谐,农业实践在经济上是可行的.可持续农业的发展必须被看成21世纪要给予优先关注的挑战.     

论不朽

不朽问题既是现实人生的终极关注点,也是西方哲学、宗教、神学的核心问题之一。本文立足于过程哲学的基本立场和研究视角,通过指出不朽与必死性的相互关系,强调宇宙本身就是由分别体现这两者的、以多样性和积极创造为特征的“活动世界”和以持续为特征的“价值世界”构成的,系统而概括地论述了不朽与价值、估价、理念、人格同一性乃至与作为对多种人格的统一过程而实际存在的上帝的关系,充分强调不朽的价值世界的功能就在于,通过人格同一性对事实世界的多样性进行调整和协调,从而使宇宙的本质性统一过程能够体现出来;最后,它通过对欧洲哲学和神学传统中由来已久的、关于“独立实存”的抽象预设的批判,强调指出哲学研究根本不能片面追求精确性,从而对作者的过程哲学研究生涯做出了最后的总结。     

网络修辞学：超阅读与批判素养

链接是网络超文本结构中最核心的要素,指的是将一个超文本呈现为有意义的联系的语义网络的基本结构,它包含着一些形形色色的修辞类型,如隐喻、转喻、提喻、夸张、反复、同一、顺序和因果以及词语误用等。与传统文本的阅读或写作依赖于提纲式和三段论的原则不同,网络超文本开放了拼装和并置文本的可能性。网络是庞大和包揽一切的,读者必须学会批判性超阅读。     

亚洲比较政治学的现状与方向

本文着重分析有关亚洲的比较政治研究的五个方面:这一研究的经验范畴是否以非比较研究为主;研究在多大程度上是实证的,而非形成理论;这一研究与公共政策或外交政策的相关性;研究所依赖的是定性的还是定量的方法;研究者的性别和地域分布。通过分析选自8种学术期刊的论文,本文证明,有关亚洲的比较政治研究更多是实证的、定性的、主要以国家为单位的分析,研究者多为在北美、西欧或澳大利亚接受教育或工作的男性学者。

本文以综合指标考察电子政府准备,主要目的是考察民族文化与电子政府之间的关系,建立民族文化对电子政府准备影响的理论框架,检验民族文化是否对电子政府准备具有重要作用.     

高等教育:学生更多,价格更高,竞争更激烈

美国高等教育即将经历动荡时代.比以往任何时候都多的学生正在收拾行装,准备上大学.而且越来越多的学生更贫穷,年龄更大,更可能是少数民族,更需要经济资助.与此同时,资金短缺的各州政府正在削减对公立大学和社区学院的拨款.所有这些都意味着许多大学人满为患,学费上涨,对经济资助的需求更大,考上名牌大学的竞争从未如此激烈.     

Sense of belonging in secondary schools: a survey of LGB and heterosexual students in Flanders

This study focuses on differences in sense of belonging between lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) and heterosexual students. Data from 1,745 secondary school students were collected with an online survey. Step-wise multiple regression analyses was used to investigate the relationship between sexual orientation and sense of school belonging. The results show that sexual orientation has an impact on sense of belonging for girls, but not for boys. Perceived discrimination and LGB friendliness of the school appeared to be important indicators of sense of belonging for all the respondents, irrespective of their sexual orientation.
