This paper examines the effect of product endorsement claims on a consumer's decision making processes. A simulated endorsement claim was made for a product after which a consumer was presented with the product. Endorsements tested were the three most common types in use: celebrity, expert, and typical consumer, with two control groups for experimental design. Three scales of measurement were used to assess the effect of the endorsement: a consumer's intent to purchase, his overall attitude towards the product, and his expected price of the product. The results show the strength of celebrity and typical consumer endorsers. They also show that the endorser effect is dramatically weaker than hypothesized. The Lavidge-Steiner hierarchy of advertising effects model is introduced in an attempt to explain this phenomenon. Guidelines for further research are provided.  相似文献

A family investment model whereby parents allocate resources among their own consumption, health investments and financial bequests to children is specified and used to develop hypotheses which are tested on cross section data. As predicted by the model, the demand for physician visits for young children is found to 1) depend on family income only up to some level ($10,000 in 1969 $ in this case), 2) increase with maternal education, and 3) vary with price measures and family size, There is also evidence that greater health investments in young children pay off in fewer severe illnesses in young adulthood.  相似文献

Abstract

“The Scarab” (1907), a sprawling Shingle-style house in Wellesley, Massachusetts, was built by poet and professor Katharine Lee Bates as a home for herself and her partner Katharine Coman, a social economist and labor activist. Both women had lived and taught at Wellesley College, founded as a single-sex institution for higher education in 1870, for over a quarter of a century. In their new home they adapted many of its hybrid spaces for living and working, surrounding themselves with friends, family, colleagues, and students to form a lively and engaged community of women. While it decisively broke with familiar conventions in both plan and program, “The Scarab” nonetheless fits comfortably in its leafy, suburban neighborhood, demonstrating that this committed couple could “hide in plain sight” while radically queering the terms of early-twentieth-century domesticity.  相似文献

A sorting-and-measuring machine (SMM) measures and sorts (classifies) on-line produced items into several groups according to their size. The measuring devices of the SMM perceive the actual item size with a random error ε and classify the item as being smaller than b iff z+ε<b. Here ε is a normal zero-mean r.v. with unknown standard deviation σ which is the main parameter characterizing the precision and technical condition of an SMM. The paper gives the following method of estimating σ. N0 items are measured and N1 of them are recognized by the SMM as belonging to the group a<zb. These N1 items are sorted again and N2 of them return to this group, these are sorted again, and so on. The estimation of σ is based on the statistics Nm/Nn. Moments of the ratio statistics Nm/Nn and their distributional properties are investigated. It turns out that the expected value of Nm/Nn depends almost linearly on σ which allows us to construct ‘almost’ unbiased estimators of type σ?mn=ANm/Nn+B with good propert including robustness with respect to the distribution of item size. Convex combinations of σ?mn statistics are considered to obtain an estimator with minimal variance.  相似文献
