A notable way that social change affects personal quality of life would rely on the person’s experience with social change.
This experience may influence societal quality of life and quality of work life, which may in turn affect personal quality
of life. Additionally, the experience of social change is possibly less detrimental to personal quality of life later in the
presence of higher existing personal quality of life. These influences over time become transparent through a three-wave panel
study of 531 working people in Hong Kong, China. Findings show that although social change experienced did not generally impair
subsequent quality of life, it tended to be more detrimental to the person with lower quality of life before. In addition,
social change experienced tended to erode societal quality of life and quality of work life experienced, which appeared to
be predictors of personal quality of life. Hence, there are possible ways for social change to predict personal quality of
life. 相似文献

Pro-social behaviors serve essential societal functions. This study examines the factors affecting the quality of social networks,
in terms of network size and perceived respect. It further explores the role of social networks in enhancing helping intention
and helping behaviors. Eight hundred and eighty people were randomly interviewed by phone. Results indicated that the level
of social participation, trust, and social identification were positively related to the quality of the social networks. A
better social network was related to a higher level of helping intention and longer hours of volunteer works. 相似文献

The Volunteer Satisfaction Index: A Validation Study in the Chinese Cultural Context 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Using a Hong Kong-sourced sample of 261 participants, this study set out to validate the Volunteer Satisfaction Index (VSI)
in the Chinese cultural context and to evaluate its psychometric properties. The VSI was originally developed by Galindo-Kuhn
and Guzley (2001) to measure the outcomes of volunteer experiences. In this study, exploratory factor analysis (EFA) yielded a different factor
structure from that proposed by the scale developer. The three factors found were personal gain, relationship within organization and relationship with peers. Cronbach’s alpha values were high for all three subscales. Results from correlation and regression analysis also confirmed
the construct and criterion-related validity of the scale. Thus, the reliability and validity of the scale were confirmed.
Implications for the assessment of volunteer satisfaction and further directions for cross-cultural studies on related topics
are discussed. 相似文献

This study aimed to explore the sources of parenting stress and the mental health of parents with kindergarten and primary school children in Hong Kong. It also examined the intervening effects of parenting self-efficacy on mental health of parents. Results indicated that parents who perceived their children as more demanding, less acceptable and less reinforcing had more parenting stress. Those who found their parental roles to be more restrictive also had more parenting stress. Lastly, parenting self-efficacy moderated the effects of parenting stress on the mental health of parents. Cultural and social factors were put forward to explain these findings and suggestions were made towards reducing the parenting stress experienced by parents with younger children in Hong Kong. 相似文献

This article examines the changing contours of Chinese sexuality studies by locating recent research in historical context. Our aim is to use the literature we review to construct a picture of the sexual landscape in China and the sociocultural and political conditions that have shaped it, enabling readers unfamiliar with China to understand its sexual culture and practices. In particular, we focus on the consequences of recent changes under the Xi regime for individuals’ sexual lives and for research into sexuality. While discussing the social and political regulation of sexuality, we also attend to the emergence of new forms of gendered and sexual subjectivity in postsocialist China. We argue throughout that sexuality in China is interwoven with the political system in a variety of ways, in particular through the tension between neoliberal and authoritarian styles of governance. We explore normative and dissident sexualities as well as forms of sexual conduct that are officially “deviant” but nonetheless tolerated or even tacitly enabled by the party-state. In particular, we highlight the dilemmas and contradictions faced by China’s citizens as they negotiate their sexual lives under “socialism with Chinese characteristics.” 相似文献

A mediation model explaining volunteers’ subjective well-being was tested in this paper. It examined the effect of intrinsic motivation on volunteers’ life satisfaction, using the need satisfaction experienced through volunteering as an intervening variable. A questionnaire was administered to 443 participants, not all of whom had previous experience of volunteering. Mediation analysis suggested a path from intrinsic motivation to volunteers’ life satisfaction through the need satisfaction experienced during volunteering. Neither volunteer participation per se nor extrinsic motivation was related to life satisfaction. The roles of motivation and need satisfaction in volunteers’ life satisfaction were identified, with implications for future volunteer programs. 相似文献

Canada and China are two very different countries in terms of their socio-economic and political contexts; however, neither country is immune to the social problem of violence against women. This paper compares the criminal justice responses to violence against women in Canada and China in order to explore the pathway of responses to violence against women in different cultural contexts, and discusses the implications for addressing violence against women on an international horizon. 相似文献
