Robust test for independence in high dimensions

This article develops a new test based on Spearman’s rank correlation coefficients for total independence in high dimensions. The test is robust to the non normality and heavy tails of the data, which is a merit that is not shared by the existing tests in literature. Simulation results suggest that the new test performs well under several typical null and alternative hypotheses. Besides, we employ a real data set to illustrate the use of the new test.     

Family Relationships,Social Connections,and Depressive Symptoms Among Chinese Older Adults in International Migrant Families

This study explored whether and how family relationships and social connections influence depressive symptoms of older migrants and older adults in transnational families using the data gathered from a cross-sectional survey in Los Angeles, California, United States, and Beijing, China. Regression results showed that the older migrants reported significantly higher levels of depression than the elders in transnational families. The findings highlight the importance of maintaining close family relations and having large friendship networks for older adults in international migrant families.     

连片特困区城镇化进程与农民增收效应的空间计量分析——以武陵山片区为例

基于2000—2012年武陵山片区69县市(区)的面板数据,考虑空间异质性,运用空间统计的ESDA法和空间计量等方法,考察了片区农民收入与城镇化进程的空间相关性及其冷热点格局,比较产业城镇化和人口城镇化的农民增收效应。结果表明:(1)武陵山片区各县市(区)农民人均纯收入呈现出高度的空间正相关性,形成以丰都、彭水、武隆、黔江为中心的热点区及洪江、中方和鹤城为中心的次热点区;人口城镇化和产业城镇化空间相关性显著,热点区主要集中在张家界片区,有向周边蔓延趋势;铜仁地区处于"三低"分布的冷点区。(2)进一步的空间模型估计显示,人口城镇化是片区农民增收效应的主要动力,产业城镇化对农民收入增长亦有正效应,但带动能力偏弱。(3)农业技术水平、物质资本投资和经济密度的提高有利于农民增收,相反,片区金融发展的现状对农民增收存在抑制作用。根据以上结论提出了相关政策建议。     

Expert panel reviews of research centers: the site visit process

Site visits are used extensively in a variety of settings within the evaluation community. They are especially common in making summative value decisions about the quality and worth of research programs/centers. However, there has been little empirical research and guidance about how to appropriately conduct evaluative site visits of research centers. We review the processes of two site visit examples using an expert panel review: (1) a process to evaluate four university research centers and (2) a process to review a federally sponsored research center. A set of 14 categories describing the expert panel review process was obtained through content analysis and participant observation. Most categories were addressed differently through the two processes highlighting the need for more research about the most effective processes to use within different contexts. Decisions about how to structure site visits appear to depend on the research context, practical considerations, the level at which the review is being conducted and the intended impact of the report. Future research pertaining to the selection of site visitors, the autonomy of the visitors in data collection and report writing, and the amount and type of information provided would be particularly valuable.

文章简要回顾了新中国成立后,特别是改革开发30年来,云南实施<民族区域自治法>为核心的进程中,地方性法律法规建设取得长足发展的历程及成果,在此基础上,深入探讨了云南民族法制建设与少数民族权益保护的内在联系,最后分析了云南贯彻实施有关法律法规中存在的问题,并有针对性地提出了一些对策.     

货币化红利的负债转化、“伪货币化”与当前通货膨胀走势

随着经济结构的变化,我国经济货币化进程已经结束,货币化红利已经开始转化为负债.这意味着同样的总量货币政策,在当前要比以往带来更大的通货膨胀压力.接下来我们讨论了这种转化的原因和影响,以及经济货币化与货币流通速度的关系.由于短期心理和周期性因素的影响,我们发现在危机期间存在“伪货币化”现象,并论证了通货膨胀在危机期间和之后的“V”型反转态势.这些分析意味着,我国2009-2010年货币超发带来的通货膨胀压力还远没有释放完毕,2011年以后我们仍将面临较大的通货膨胀压力.
