This paper will discuss the treatment of couples based on an integration of analytic and systemic ways of regarding the couple in conflict. The author uses a combination of empathy and coaching of each partner, both oriented to validating each partner's integrity, and helping each to reflect on his or her own part in continuing the struggle. The goal of such treatment is to help them represent themselves by taking responsibility for themselves in differing from each other, in ways that respect themselves and each other. The premise is that partners in a struggling relationship have issues within their individual functioning that are continuing to defy their expressed intention of having a satisfying relationship. Their individual issues have contributed to their selection of each other as mates and, together, they have developed the ways of relating that are so problematical. We understand that the conflict and its effect within the couples' system is sufficiently meaningful to each partner to necessitate and justify the repetitive behavior. 相似文献

In this article, we use data from a new longitudinal survey--the Fragile Families and Child Wellbeing Study--to examine union formation among unmarried parents who have just had a child together. We used multinomial logistic regression to estimate the effects of economic, cultural/interpersonal, and other factors on whether (relative to having no romantic relationship) parents are romantically involved and living apart, cohabiting, or married to each other about one year after the child's birth. Net of other factors (including baseline relationship status), women's education and men's earnings encourage marriage. Cultural and interpersonal factors also have strong effects: women's trust of men, both parents' positive attitudes toward marriage, and both parents' assessment of the supportiveness in their relationship encourage marriage. Supportiveness also encourages cohabitation, while fathers having a problem with alcohol or drugs and reporting higher conflict in the relationship discourage cohabitation: Fathers' physical violence deters couples' remaining in romantic nonresident relationships. 相似文献

In Australia, wellbeing has been used as an assessment of how young people are doing by health researchers, youth researchers
and psychologists. The concept ‚wellbeing’ is increasingly applied to young people in their late teens and early twenties
with little discussion of young people’s perspectives. Using quantitative measures of subjective wellbeing as well as qualitative
interviews to allow young people to discuss the concept of wellbeing, this study explored the levels and meanings of wellbeing
among 91 young people (aged 16–24) from a rural center in south-east Australia. Key components of wellbeing for young people
were found to include relationships, psychological dimensions and personal issues while family and ‚pressure’ impacted wellbeing.
For most young people, wellbeing was multidimensional, holistic and centred around their own lives. Findings suggest that
the Deiner et al. satisfaction with life scale was an appropriate measure of young people’s wellbeing but that health, sociology
of youth and psychological approaches all contribute to young people’s perspectives of wellbeing and need to be incorporated

It has been argued that reconciliation between Indigenous and non‐Indigenous Australians requires non‐Indigenous Australians to change their attitudes. Some suggest that this process is occurring and that younger people hold more positive attitudes towards Indigenous Australians. This paper explored the perspectives of 86 young people from Shepparton, Victoria in relation to reconciliation and related Indigenous issues. The study found that young participants' views of reconciliation varied, and while some supported reconciliation, many opposed a national apology and indicated that they were not very informed about or interested in Aboriginal issues. Many distinguished between ‘good’ and ‘bad’ Aboriginals based on behaviour. Their talk was embedded with notions of special privilege, ‘sameness’ and social hierarchy but excluded attention to cultural difference. Findings suggest that these young people have embraced discourses of sameness, individualism and ‘practical reconciliation’ and that they are reluctant to reflect on their position of White privilege. 相似文献

Young workers are over-represented in workplace injury statistics and there is growing interest in addressing their vulnerability and safety exposure. Such concerns have been raised within a broader discursive framework of responsibilisation which has seen a transfer of responsibility for workplace safety from employer to worker. This article examines the potential for self-advocacy as a strategy for improving the safety of young workers through the provision of resources to articulate and act on workplace rights. The study utilises data derived from 48 group interviews involving 216 high school students (13–16 years of age) at 19 high schools in Queensland, Australia, who were asked to discuss their knowledge and experience of workplace rights and responsibilities. The limitations of the safety self-advocacy approach are explored, including the social, developmental and organisational issues that might affect the ability or willingness of school-aged workers to self-advocate. The findings reveal that the notion of self-advocacy is internalised by young people before they even enter the formal labour market but that in practice, attempts by young people to enact rights to safety are often dismissed or undermined. 相似文献

Voice mechanisms in organizations provide an opportunity for employees to have a say about their work. As new digital mechanisms, such as social media (SM), are being increasingly adopted by organizations for knowledge sharing, employee engagement and general communication, it is important to consider the extent to which SM may facilitate employee voice. The limited attempts to examine SM and employee voice have mostly focused on identifying the contextual factors that could promote constructive voice on SM. The extant literature does not explore how SM features may (or may not) facilitate all types of voice, such as those which promote employee interests. Adopting an affordance lens, this paper answers the call of voice scholars to explore the potential of SM as a voice mechanism by discussing the perceived value of different SM features for different types of employee voice content. The paper brings together SM and voice literature and explores how different SM affordances may potentially facilitate certain voice content more so over others. In doing so, future directions for research of voice on SM are also discussed. 相似文献
