Squashed dreams and rare breeds: ableism and the arbiters of life and death

The week beginning 29 June 2015 is not just historic for the closure of the Independent Living Fund in the United Kingdom, but for me was the week they decided that my life is not worth investing in; they being NHS England, NICE and, with them, the Department of Health. They chose not to support the enzyme replacement therapy that has been not only keeping me alive, but giving me a quality of life – enabling me to return to finish my Disability Studies PhD exploring how Christian leaders explain disability, where ethics have become the main topic, and to rebuild my career – or so I thought.

对中国统计学专业的发展历程进行了回顾,对其现状进行了分析,充分肯定了它在学科地位、人才培养等方面取得的成绩,同时也认识到它在经济理论基础、数理基础、培养目标和师资队伍方面存在的不足,并提出了相应的改进措施。针对这些不足,结合本人教学经验对统计学专业的发展从培养目标、课程体系设置、考试形式、应用能力培养和师资队伍能力培养方面提出几点思考。

金庸武侠小说研究成为时下的热门课题，在其十五部作品中，从陈家洛、郭靖到萧峰，再到令狐冲、杨过，最后通过韦小宝，展示了金庸武侠小说中“侠客”的形象在不断地发生着变化———从“侠之正”到“侠之变”再到最后的“侠之反”。

2012年3D 版《泰坦尼克号》的华丽上映曾掀起影迷们对它的新一轮热捧。文章就同样备受中国观众喜爱的中国方言版《泰坦尼克号》为案例，结合功能目的论来探寻中国方言版字幕翻译的目的与性质，进而分析、总结英文影片字幕的中国方言版译制活动过程。     

奥古斯特·倍倍尔的社会主义思想及其对马克思主义的丰富和发展

奥古斯特·倍倍尔(1840-1913)是德国社会民主党的主要领袖和创始人之一,也是德国工人运动和国际工人运动著名的政治家和活动家.他的社会主义思想,大多是从革命实践中形成的,对德国工人运动和社会主义运动具有实际的指导作用.他的社会主义思想,既是对马克思主义基本理论的继承,又是对马克思主义思想的丰富和发展.在继承了马克思主义基本原理的基础上,倍倍尔在无产阶级政党建设的具体问题、无产阶级政党的具体斗争方式与斗争策略问题、以及妇女解放事业与实现社会主义的关系问题上,进一步丰富和发展了马克思主义.     

Dairy Farm Survival in a Metropolitan Area: Dutchess County,New York, 1984–19901

Abstract The effect of nonfarm development on dairy farm survival in New York's highly developed lower Hudson Valley is analyzed. The major hypothesis is that significant losses of dairy farms during this period are the result of urban development pressures. Contrary to this hypothesis, however, the bivariate and multivariate analyses of data from a mail survey of all commercial dairy operators in Dutchess County as of 1984 and industry survivors, exiters, and new entrants through 1990 demonstrate that nonfarm development has a negligible effect on dairy farm survival; rather, survival is significantly affected by age of operator and by family disruption. Thus, demographic and family process factors are found to be more powerful determinants of dairy farm survival in this particular metropolitan context.

中国网上聊天室中英语语言特征

中国网上英语聊天室中的英语与英语国家聊天室中的英语相比较 ,在某些方面 ,如缩写的使用、句首字母少用大写、句尾少标点等有一些共同的特征。但由于受本族语的影响 ,中国人网上聊天的语言有其独到之处。中国人用英语聊天的目的主要是为了练习语言 ,使英语语言的交际功能减弱。受语言水平所限 ,中国聊天者的会话语言更接近书面语体 ,聊天的内容狭窄且缺乏连续性。网上聊天 ,作为一种新的语言交际方式 ,为英语学习者们提供了另一种学习途径 ,在练习快速英语思维及表达方面有着积极作用
