Blazing new trails or opportunity lost? Evaluating research at the intersection of leadership and entrepreneurship

More than a decade ago, scholars formally conceptualized the potential synergy between leadership and entrepreneurship scholarship. Our work highlights research accomplishments occurring at the interface of these two intellectual areas as well as identifying untapped possibilities for continued research. We highlight how recent efforts have witnessed a mutual exchange of ideas that present opportunities benefiting both fields. Drawing from four key domains of entrepreneurship previously proposed to mutually inform future leadership research efforts, we make suggestions for integrating entrepreneurial opportunities, the roles of individual and entrepreneurial teams, the modes of organizing entrepreneurial ventures, and differing entrepreneurial environments with key trends important to leadership research, such as servant leadership and leader-member exchange theory. Overall, our work provides an assessment of the state of the art surrounding the coalescence of leadership and entrepreneurship research and sets an agenda for the next decade of research at this intersection.     

Higher order moments of order statistics from INID exponential random variables

In this paper we develop recurrence relations for the third and fourth order moments of order statistics from I.NI.D exponential random variables. Recurrence relations for the p-outlier model (with a slippage of p observations) are derived as a special case. Applications of these results will also be described.     

Treatment of Male Homosexuality Through Marriage Counseling: A Case Presentation

This case presentation describes the use of marriage counseling for the treatment of male homosexuality and examines several theoretical issues including mixed sexual and dominance-submission dynamics, a transference family concept, and the economy of the particular homosexual syndrome and its meanings. Time to ask and tell: Voices of older gay and bisexual male veterans regarding community services

ABSTRACT

This participatory action study involved lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) veterans in determining community-based service needs for health and wellness, illuminating perspectives of older LGBTQ veterans regarding community services. This study explored veterans' perceptions of being LGBTQ later in life. The study included data from interviews with gay and bisexual male veterans ages 51 to 87. Participants valued engagement as part of community. Their recommendations for action included communal meals, transportation, housing, and the coming-out process. Community services facilitated community engagement to support health and wellness for LGBTQ older veterans. The authors used participatory action research (PAR), a method of systematic inquiry integrating the perspective of persons living the experience, to organize the study. Further PAR is recommended to implement community services to meeting health and wellness needs of participants.     

Punishment and status in collective action: How status hierarchies foster optimal punishment use

I provide a brief overview of the literature on human cooperation, punishment, and social dilemmas. After reviewing relevant literature, I move on to a series of predictions, intertwining findings on punishment, public goods, and social status. Leaning on Status Characteristics Theory, I explicate how the behavioral expectations that we derive from status positions foster a means of using punishment to secure public goods. Furthermore, I argue that we carry general expectations for high status actors to punish when deemed collectively necessary. Building on this expectation, I articulate how initially status‐homogenous groups can develop status ranks on the basis of punishment behavior, allowing task groups to mimic sanctioning institutions commonly seen in public goods research and everyday life.     

THE POLITICIZATION OF CLIMATE CHANGE AND POLARIZATION IN THE AMERICAN PUBLIC'S VIEWS OF GLOBAL WARMING, 2001–2010

We examine political polarization over climate change within the American public by analyzing data from 10 nationally representative Gallup Polls between 2001 and 2010. We find that liberals and Democrats are more likely to report beliefs consistent with the scientific consensus and express personal concern about global warming than are conservatives and Republicans. Further, the effects of educational attainment and self‐reported understanding on global warming beliefs and concern are positive for liberals and Democrats, but are weaker or negative for conservatives and Republicans. Last, significant ideological and partisan polarization has occurred on the issue of climate change over the past decade.
