The effect of market type and product technology on innovation was studied using data from 3800 employees in 88 small businesses. Results demonstrate that: (1) organizational context effects on innovative activity are significant at administrative and strategic levels, (2) organizational members in consumer markets initiate more innovations but implement fewer than organizational members in industrial markets, (3) members of service-providing organizations report less innovative activity than those in goods-producing organizations, and (4) operative level employees appear to play a small role in the innovation process. 相似文献

Dr Alan Mumford is best known in the UK for his pioneering work on managerial learning and board-level development in the corporate sector. After his early career in the construction industry, he worked as an internal management development adviser to a number of UK companies before leaving fifteen years ago to join International Management Centres Europe as a professor. Alan continues to advise as an independent consultant and to devote time to writing. A prolific author, his classic text Management Development: Strategies for Action recently appeared in its fourth edition published by the Institute of Personnel and Development, and his reflections on board-level and senior executive development in Learning at the Top (McGraw-Hill, 1995). Of greatest renown is his collaboration with Dr Peter Honey on developing the Learning Styles Questionnaire and the Manual of Learning Styles (Honey, 3rd edn, 1992) which have become the most frequently used diagnostic and development tools on UK corporate management development programnles. We use data from two national surveys of married individuals—one from 1980 and the other from 2000—to understand how three dimensions of marital quality changed during this period. Marital happiness and divorce proneness changed little between 1980 and 2000, but marital interaction declined significantly. A decomposition analysis suggested that offsetting trends affected marital quality. Increases in marital heterogamy, premarital cohabitation, wives' extended hours of employment, and wives' job demands were associated with declines in multiple dimensions of marital quality. In contrast, increases in economic resources, decision‐making equality, nontraditional attitudes toward gender, and support for the norm of lifelong marriage were associated with improvements in multiple dimensions of marital quality. Increases in husbands' share of housework appeared to depress marital quality among husbands but to improve marital quality among wives. 相似文献

Children's participation in public life in contemporary Britain is examined in relation to the tension between control and self‐realisation found in late modernity. It is argued that, despite the recognition of children as persons in their own right, public policy and practice is marked by an intensification of control, regulation and surveillance around children. This tension is considered in relation to the constitution of children in the public sphere as human capital and therefore as a means of controlling the future. This is contrasted to the private sphere where children's potential for self‐realisation is increasingly sequestered in the family. It is suggested that these trends raise issues of social inequality, intergenerational justice and institutional disengagement in relation to children.
