ABSTRACT

This article builds classical and Bayesian testing procedures for choosing between non nested multivariate regression models. Although there are several classical tests for discriminating univariate regressions, only the Cox test is able to consistently handle the multivariate case. We then derive the limiting distribution of the Cox statistic in such a context, correcting an earlier derivation in the literature. Further, we show how to build alternative Bayes factors for the testing of nonnested multivariate linear regression models. In particular, we compute expressions for the posterior Bayes factor, the fractional Bayes factor, and the intrinsic Bayes factor.  相似文献

The small-sample accuracy of seven members of the family of power-divergence statistics for testing independence or homogeneity in contingency tables was studied via simulation. The likelihood ratio statistic G 2 and Pearson's X 2 statistic are among these seven members, whose behavior was studied at nominal test sizes of.01 and.05 with marginal distributions that could be uniform or skewed and with a set of sample sizes that included sparseness conditions as measured through table density (i.e., the ratio of sample size to number of cells). The likelihood ratio statistic G 2 rejected the null hypothesis too often even with large table density, whereas Pearson's X 2 was sufficiently accurate and only presented a minor misbehavior when table density was less than two observations/cell. None of the other five statistics outperformed Pearson's X 2. A nonasymptotic variant of X 2 solved the minor inaccuracies of Pearson's X 2 and turned out to be the most accurate statistic for testing independence or homogeneity, even with table densities of one observation/cell. These results clearly advise against the use of the likelihood ratio statistic G 2.  相似文献

Social desirability bias (SDB) is the tendency in respondents to answer questions untruthfully in the hope of giving good impression to others. SDB occurs when the survey question is highly sensitive or personal. The Randomized Response Technique (RRT) is one of several methods to get around SDB in face-to-face interview surveys involving sensitive questions. In this article, we first review some of the existing binary response RRT models. Then, we propose a new model—Two-Stage Binary Optional RRT model. Much of the focus is on estimating π, the prevalence of sensitive characteristic, and ω, the sensitivity level of the underlying question. We discuss the asymptotic properties of our estimators and present some simulation results. It turns out that the proposed Two-Stage Binary Optional RRT model is more effective than the Optional RRT model proposed by Gupta (2001).  相似文献

In this work, we develop statistical inference for the parameters of a discrete-time stochastic SIR epidemic model. We use a Markov chain for describing the dynamic behavior of the epidemic. Specifically, we propose estimators for the contact and removal rates based on the maximum likelihood and martingale methods, and establish their asymptotic distributions. The obtained results are applied in the statistical analysis of the basic reproduction number, a quantity that is useful in establishing vaccination policies. In order to evaluate the population size for which the results are useful, a numerical study is carried out. Finally, a comparison of the maximum likelihood and martingale estimators is conducted by means of Monte Carlo simulations.  相似文献

A new form of composition of the indicators employed to generate the United Nations Human Development Index (HDI) is presented here. This form of composition is based on the assumption that random errors affect the measurement of each indicator. This assumption allows for replacing the vector of evaluations according to each indicator by vectors of probabilities of being the best or the worst according to such attribute. The probabilistic composition of such probabilities of preference according to each indicator into probabilities of being the best or the worst according to all of them generates indices that may unveil, on one hand, performances to be followed and, on the other hand, extreme conditions that an additive composition would hide. Differences between the results of application of the diverse forms of composition are examined in the case of the HDI and in the case of the districts version of the HDI employed to compare Brazilian municipalities. It is verified that the smallest correlation between the education enrolment rate and the other indicators in the Brazilian case enlarges such differences.  相似文献

The Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework offers a promising strategy to address the needs of higher education students with disabilities; UDL aims to support access, participation and progress for ‘all’ learners, resulting in more accessible learning environments. The objective of this qualitative study is to explore whether UDL addresses the learning needs of students with disabilities effectively. Findings suggested that students’ perceptions align well with UDL’s principles, especially with the principle of multiple means of engagement. Additionally, we found that meeting the learning needs of some students may create barriers for others. To overcome these weaknesses, UDL needs to address the individual learning needs of students, not only through setting and curricular changes, but also in a direct way. Therefore, this study argues for responsive teaching whilst implementing UDL in a flexible way. Helping students to articulate their learning needs by asking them the right questions will be crucial.  相似文献

Urbanization threatens biodiversity worldwide and is expected to increase in the future. This involves intensification of fragmentation and increase of urban forest remnants. Thus, it is important to understand the functioning of these patches for the preservation of local biodiversity. Mutualistic interactions such as seed dispersal have a key role in the dynamics of plant populations and could help to mitigate the negative effects of fragmentation on wild plant populations. In this context, we have used the mastic Pistacia lentiscus, a common Mediterranean shrub, as a model to study the interaction between seed dispersal by birds and the local genetic diversity of individuals in a highly fragmented semiarid forestry area of the Iberian Southeast (Murcia, Spain). Results reveal a high genetic diversity and a lack of differentiation between shrub patches of P. lentiscus in the area, probably as a result of a strong, but rather recent fragmentation, and an apparently poor contribution of birds to the dispersal of Pistacia seeds. However, the existence of latent impacts cannot be discarded, since at least one of the patches shows some signs of inbreeding.  相似文献

In many medical studies, patients may experience several events during follow-up. The times between consecutive events (gap times) are often of interest and lead to problems that have received much attention recently. In this work, we consider the estimation of the bivariate distribution function for censored gap times. Some related problems such as the estimation of the marginal distribution of the second gap time and the conditional distribution are also discussed. In this article, we introduce a nonparametric estimator of the bivariate distribution function based on Bayes’ theorem and Kaplan–Meier survival function and explore the behavior of the four estimators through simulations.
