Divorce and remarriage can be a stressful time for children: Stepmothers can aid in reducing negative repercussions. Effectively incorporating stepmothers into the family can aid in a healthy transition. Addressing role ambiguity, relationships, communication styles, and reorganization can help families avoid unnecessary stress during divorce and remarriage. Interventions that focus on increasing coping mechanisms and effective communication help reduce negative side effects and aid in the successful reorganization of the family following divorce or remarriage. Counselors can aid in this process by supporting families using structural family therapy (SFT) and suggesting interventions. When counselors and society support the diverse compositions of families, this reorganization can happen with less distress for the children involved. 相似文献

Generalized-conditioned reinforcers (GCRs) are advocated for by practitioners when possible because of their ability to function as reinforcers across a wide array of motivative operations. In organizational behavior management 2 common GCRs are praise and money. Although many studies have demonstrated their usefulness, no prior study has compared relative preferences for GCRs (specifically money) and other potentially reinforcing items. A total of 24 direct care employees from a group home setting completed assessments for potential reinforcers. All participants in the current study identified items other than money as high-preference items, suggesting that some items may serve as alternatives to money in terms of preference. 相似文献

There is a growing interest in quality of life as an integrated approach to addressing key social, environmental and economic
determinants of health. The University of Saskatchewan’s Community-University Institute for Social Research, funded by the
Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (grant #410-2004-0669) has examined the process and results of a multi-stakeholder
approach to the ongoing sustainability of Saskatoon, Canada as a healthy city with an improving and a more equitably distributed
quality of life. Using quantitative and qualitative analysis, together with GIS technology, this research has examined the
quality of life across three locales in Saskatoon—representing Low, Middle and High socio-economic status in both 2001 and
2004. The participatory action research approach used in this work ensures the value of the outputs to the stakeholders. Given
the strong recognition of the importance of interfacing policy, research and community, and the growing impatience with the
limited application of research findings to social and health practices and policies, this project has undertaken four major
knowledge translation/transfer strategies, above and beyond the traditional academic channels: (1) engagement of local media
on a consistent basis, (2) implementing community policy forums to ensure continued community readiness and uptake, (3) facilitation
of and successful functioning of a steering committee, and (4) employment of an action researcher to operate as a policy entrepreneur.
This paper will review and discuss each of these strategies and outline the evaluative research being done to document the
success of these strategies.

This chapter discusses a case study of the merger between two relatively small organizations: a local nonprofit arts council and a public county‐level humanities commission. As this case deviates from other merger analyses that tend to focus on larger health and social service agencies, the chapter examines how well key findings of the nonprofit merger literature apply to mergers of organizations of smaller size and in other fields. Generally, we find that the merger literature so far provides sufficient guidance for nonprofit managers in fields such as the arts, where merger pressures have only now begun to mount. 相似文献

ABSTRACTSocial workers rarely receive education and training in the areas of grief, bereavement, and death and dying, which may lead to difficulties in compassionately and ethically addressing concerns in end-of-life or grief-related contexts. This article presents actual and potential outcomes from three challenging end-of-life case studies using Mattison’s ethical decision-making model as a framework. The case studies were drawn from student interviews with experienced master’s-level social workers. This pedagogical article helps to promote self-reflection and consideration of ethical issues in grief and death-related situations as well as supplement death education and ethics curricula to include end-of-life content. 相似文献

A 7-point policy model is used to examine policy on hospice eligibility and election in the United States. Despite the growth of hospice, many eligible patients continue to lack access due to difficulties experienced by providers in discerning 6-month prognoses among chronically ill patients, the inability of patients to elect hospice alongside curative care, and limited reimbursement for hospice providers. Though the landscape of dying has evolved, with more deaths occurring later in life from chronic illness, Medicare hospice eligibility requirements have historically remained the same. Utilization would increase if hospice agencies were able to provide fewer restrictions by including ongoing treatments such as transfusions, intravenous nutrition, or palliative radiation. Hospices would be more likely to enroll critically ill patients who require some ongoing curative measures if Medicare reimbursement rates were higher, and patients would be more likely to seek hospice earlier if Medicare election policies were altered to allow concurrent care. Participation would also be increased by extending hospice eligibility past the traditional prognosis of 6 months. Though expansion in public spending of hospice care has been met with some opposition, current research suggests that potential savings due to decreased costs in acute care is promising. 相似文献

Summary. The singular value decomposition and its interpretation as a linear biplot have proved to be a powerful tool for analysing many forms of multivariate data. Here we adapt biplot methodology to the specific case of compositional data consisting of positive vectors each of which is constrained to have unit sum. These relative variation biplots have properties relating to the special features of compositional data: the study of ratios, subcompositions and models of compositional relationships. The methodology is applied to a data set consisting of six-part colour compositions in 22 abstract paintings, showing how the singular value decomposition can achieve an accurate biplot of the colour ratios and how possible models interrelating the colours can be diagnosed. 相似文献

The purpose of this study was to examine the mobility (movement to a new school) and attrition (quitting teaching) patterns of teachers in high poverty, racially segregated (HPRS) schools in the US. Using 2007–9 survey data from the National Center for Education Statistics, a multi-level multinomial logistic regression was performed to examine the contribution of teacher characteristics, school setting characteristics, and school climate with a focus on interactions between school climate variables. The findings demonstrated that school climate variables predicted increased odds of mobility and that teacher characteristics, school setting, and teachers’ perceptions of school climate predicted increased odds of teacher attrition. These findings suggest that teacher attrition and mobility from HPRS schools could be slowed by strategic placement of teachers based on their beliefs about students in poverty and students of color. 相似文献
