Behavioral countermeasures are the strategies engaged by liars to deliberately control face or body behavior to fool lie catchers.
To date research has not shown whether deceivers can suppress elements of their facial expression as a behavioral countermeasure.
This study examined whether participants could suppress facial actions such as eyebrow movements or smiles on command when
under scrutiny by a lie catcher. The results derived from micro momentary coding revealed that facial actions can be reduced,
but not eliminated, and that instructions to suppress one element of the expression resulted in reduction in all facial movement,
regardless of veracity. The resulting implications for security contexts are discussed. 相似文献

This article reports on the results of two surveys that asked BSW and MSW students to evaluate the supervision provided by their field instructors at two points during their practicum. Students responded to a variety of questions pertaining to the supervisory assignments and activities of their field instructor. The author discusses the relationship between supervisory skills and students’ perceptions of enhanced learning. Early in the practicum, activities reported as most helpful to students were those that introduced them to the agency and clarified expectations of their performance. At the end of their experience, students perceived as most helpful those activities which helped them to be self-critical and to link classroom and field learning. 相似文献

This study examined the effects of marital status and family income on the self‐esteem of 292 African American mothers. Counter to previous studies with European American mothers, family income moderated the effects of marital status. Those mothers with higher family income had higher self‐esteem, regardless of their marital status. For those with less family income, married mothers had much higher self‐esteem than unmarried mothers. Low‐income married mothers had the same levels of self‐esteem as high income mothers. It was concluded that financial resources can buffer the effects of being single, and being married can buffer the effects of being low income. Policy initiatives that focus on reducing the financial hardship on single mothers and increasing the marriage rate among lower income parents were also discussed. 相似文献

Abstract The relative importance of university versus work setting socialization experiences and the combined effects of these experiences on professional role orientation is assessed via path analysis for a sample of 1580 engineering and science graduates of a large midwestern university. As hypothesized, the following experiences positively effect professional role orientation: science training; attainment of the Ph.D.; autonomy as a graduate student; knowledge of faculty who endorse the scientific ethos; assignment to an R&D function and exercise of high levels of technical responsibility in initial and current jobs. In general, professional orientation results less from work setting influences than from graudate school training. One exception is that respondents who exercise high levels of technical responsibility in 1965 show a stronger professional orientation than their less successful colleagues. 相似文献
