Children are central to the rhetoric supporting global climate agreements, yet they are also envisaged to play a strategic role in materialising such agreements. Along with other household actors, children are implicated in localised efforts to manage global resource sustainability. As learners in educational systems that are being redesigned to encompass messages of sustainability, children are moreover positioned as ‘agents of change’ through sustainability education. Drawing on theoretical work on children's agency and interdependence, this review calls for greater attention to the structural and relational dimensions of environmental knowledge transmission to inform sustainability education. This is presented as one move towards constructing what Middlemiss (2014) terms a more ‘socially sensitive’ model of sustainable development.  相似文献

Does education improve health more for one sex than the other? We develop a theory of resource substitution which implies that education improves health more for women than men. Data from a 1995 survey of U.S. adults with follow‐ups in 1998 and 2001 support the hypothesis. Physical impairment decreases more for women than for men as the level of education increases. The gender gap in impairment essentially disappears among people with a college degree. Latent growth SEM vectors also show that among the college educated, men's and women's life course patterns of physical impairment do not differ significantly.  相似文献

ABSTRACT The purpose of this paper is to study the determinants of the attribution of alimony to women after divorce, and to examine the main determinants of its amount. Three different theoretical models of marriage may influence judges'decision in attributing alimony: an investment-type marriage, a trade-type marriage or an association-type marriage. An estimation of the corresponding dichotomic variable is run using data we collected from six French courts. Results show that the probability of obtaining alimony is strongly increased if the divorce is declared to be the husband's fault; labour market participation of the ex-wife exerts a negative effect, as well as a decrease in relative wages of husband and wife. Finally, it appears that the amount of alimony is independent of the amount of child support.  相似文献

Due to the changing cultural composition of the U.S., social workers are increasingly working with clients from different cultures. As a result of globalization, our schools of social work are training international students who return home to work in their native countries and take with them our theories and models of practice. It is essential that, as a profession, we address questions about the relevance of our models to work with clients from different cultures. This paper will use theoretical concepts from anthropology and data from field research with Suwanrang, a social worker in Northern Thailand to address these issues. The implications of the debate between universalist, relativist, and cultural pluralist perspectives within anthropology for psychodynamic, developmental models and social work treatment will be explored. This paper explores the use of multiple regression in employment discrimination cases brought under the Equal Pay Act of 1963 or Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Through examining the outcomes of the cases and judicial commentary about regression analyses as evidence, the paper concludes that plaintiffs are most likely to prevail in cases where both the plaintiffs and defendants utilize regression. Plaintiffs who do not present regression analyses as evidence are at a distinct disadvantage when defendants do so. However, defendants are not similarly disadvantaged when responding to a plaintiffs regression analysis without their own statistical showing. Finally, plaintiffs who support their regression analyses with witness testimony of discriminatory employer acts appear to be more likely to prevail than plaintiffs who do not present such witnesses.  相似文献

The French state‐levy system of ongoing training at work has not provided greater access for women than the laissez‐faire British system. While headlines figures suggest that women receive more training than men in Britain and that the gap has also closed for well‐qualified women in France, qualitative analysis shows that this does not indicate greater gender equity. The societal effect approach is useful for cross‐national comparison within the sphere of economic organization but must be combined with analysis of the gender order to account for differences and similarities in social reproduction. The case of the insurance industry provides detailed empirical evidence of the issues underlying this, particularly women's availability for ongoing training at work. The situation of women in each country is inextricably linked to a complex interdependence of a multitude of variables, some of which are similar, such as the workings of patriarchy, and some of which are different, such as state configurations of childcare infrastructure.  相似文献

Differences between events, values, attitudes and relationships provide therapists with the most meaningful data in the search for a circular perspective. Systems change is believed to be dependent on the reception of relevant information by the system. Traditionally, information has been collected verbally and Tomm (1984) outlines a schema of the types of difference questions. However, clinical practice suggests that these questions are not suitable to all clients. Difference questions may be confusing and unproductive when working with young children whose language skills are not fully developed and auditory memory limited. Adults whose verbal skills are limited or whose primary mode for processing information is not auditory, also have difficulty. An alternative visual method for collecting news of difference is proposed, using Tomm's (1984) categories as a basis. Case examples are given of this technique, at the stage of data collection and as a way of marking and reinforcing change through the course of therapy.  相似文献
