Governance structures of socially complex knowledge flows: Exchange, entitlement and gifts

The intangible aspects of knowledge transfer in multinational corporations (MNCs) continue to be a crucial area of research in social science research and raise the issue of knowledge governance structures. The purpose of this conceptual note is twofold. Firstly, we believe that there is more than one governance structure for successful knowledge transfers and flows. We provide a typology of three governance structures: “exchange,” “entitlement,” “gifts.” Secondly, most MNCs will need to take advantage of all three or a combination of these three socially complex governance structures.     

Altruism Within the Family: A Comparison of Father and Mother Using Life Happiness and Life Satisfaction

Studies on intra-household allocation of resources show that exogenous increase in mothers’ income has larger effect on children’s outcomes than the same increase in fathers’ income, suggesting gender differences may exist in parents’ altruism towards their children. Using self-reported life happiness and life satisfaction, we investigate the differences by gender in mutual altruism between father and child as well as mother and child dyads in Singapore. We found that mutual altruism exists between mother and child, but not between father and child. These findings are robust to the measure of self-reported well-being. Further, we find that gender difference in altruism of fathers and mothers is not driven by the difference in the extent of future old age support desired by fathers and mothers from their children.

The SSR Plot: A Graphical Representation for Regression

An alternative graphical method, called the SSR plot, is proposed for use with a multiple regression model. The new method uses the fact that the sum of squares for regression (SSR) of two explanatory variables can be partitioned into the SSR of one variable and the increment in SSR due to the addition of the second variable. The SSR plot represents each explanatory variable as a vector in a half circle. Our proposed SSR plot explains that the explanatory variables corresponding to the vectors located closer to the horizontal axis have stronger effects on the response variable. Furthermore, for a regression model with two explanatory variables, the magnitude of the angle between two vectors can be used to identify suppression.     

中国保险业效率的实证研究

以国内23家保险公司1999-2005年的数据为样本,运用超效率(super-efficiency)DEA方法研究我国保险业的技术效率状况和动态变化趋势,并通过效率评估值和绩效指标值间的斯皮尔曼相关系数,检验效率评估的稳健性.为进一步探讨造成保险公司间效率差异的原因,应用面板数据模型考察影响保险公司效率的若干重要因素.结果表明,公司规模、承保能力、业务扩张、经营区域、所有权特征是影响国内保险公司效率的重要因素.

奥巴马政府上台后,为了打开美国外交的新局面,修正了小布什政府的新保守主义外交路线,推出了具有自由国际主义特色的巧实力外交战略。本文评析了美国"阿富巴战略",指出它正是依循巧实力理念而制定的,旨在实现美国反恐重心的转移和彻底铲除各种暴力极端势力。阿富汗大选是对这一新战略的考验,也折射出新战略所面临的困境。受制于诸多因素,新战略的走向和阿富汗战争的前景都不容乐观。     

论唐代“岭南五府”建制的创置与演替——兼论唐后期岭南地域节度使司建制

唐代岭南地域的都督府建制单位具有地方高层管理组织与行政区划的典型性。武德四年（621）,唐朝平定岭南地域,遂在南疆建置行政管理机构,分划管治区域。所谓＂岭南五府＂是对置于岭南大陆地区五个都督府与都护府的通称;而＂岭南五管＂则是对五个都督府及都护府管治区域的总称。与此同时,还有置于海南岛的崖州都督府。武德中,岭南地域相继出现11个都督府（初名总管府）,管87州。＂岭南五管＂格局形成于天授中（690—692）容州都督府组建后。先天至天宝十五年间（712—756）,岭南地域仍有六都督府,属州增至73个州。至唐后期,在＂岭南五府＂的基础上次第建立五个方镇,仍称＂岭南五管＂。     

动物遗传学综合性实验教学模式和效果

在动物科学专业本科生“动物遗传学”课程中,开设综合性实验,通过对实验设计的基本思路、教学方式、教学效果反馈信息、问题及对策等方面进行综合讨论和分析。实施效果表明,这种实验课教学模式得到了学生的普遍认同,认为通过综合性实验扩大了知识面,对遗传学知识有了直观的感性认识,巩固了理论课学习的基本知识,提高了综合实验技能和动手能力,为学生今后从事相应的专业研究奠定基础。
