Analysis of the ergonomic usage of the ARMflex in the odontological area

The aim of this paper is to analyze the importance and applicability of ARMflex in the odontological area and its influence in preventing or stopping the involuntary habit of improperly positioning the hand under the face or under the pillow. The ergonomic usage of ARMflex influences the design in odontological areas and innovates in the semi-immobilization of the patient to prevent future orthodontic problems.

Mexican-American families: A psychoeducational approach for addressing chemical dependency and codependency

Chemical dependency and codependency are often referred to as family problems, and the ways in which families frame these problems may be influenced by their ethnic and cultural background. Increased efforts are being made to help families understand the problems that arise from alcohol and other drug abuse by utilizing approaches that take into consideration their unique cultural aspects. This article reviews some of the ways in which Mexican-American families, in particular, may view chemical dependency and codependency. More importantly, it describes the cultural adaptation of a psychoeducational program to help. Mexican-American parents, primarily mothers whose children are drug involved or who are considered to be at risk for drug use, better address these problems.     

Chinese families in transition: Cultural conflicts and adjustment problems

Challenged to cope with two different cultures, Chinese American immigrant families face many stressors and conflicts. Such difficulties faced by these individuals usually stem from language, religious, and value differences. Furthermore, family members are faced with role and status changes due to differing rates and levels of acculturation. As a result, there is a great need for mental health services. However, due to cultural barriers, mental health services are not accessible nor acceptable to many Chinese Americans. Effective intervention strategies which integrate the Chinese cultural values and norms with psychotherapy are recommended.     

USES OF CHILDREN'S MAKE-BELIEVE PLAY IN FAMILY THERAPY:THEORY AND CLINICAL EXAMPLES

A theoretical framework for developing, describing and analyzing family-therapeutic techniques involving make-believe play is presented and illustrated by clinical examples. This theoretical framework includes specifications of the therapeutic goals served by the technique and its procedural details (the therapist's position and roles, the method of intervention, the sources of play content and means, and the amount of planning) and an analysis of its rationale (the properties of the make-believe play involved, the targets of the intervention in the family system, the expected changes and their causes). This framework draws on a definition of the concept "make-believe play," a model for the analysis of make-believe play symbols and a model of family systems, which are briefly sketched in this article, preceding the presentation of the theoretical framework itself.
