In the current U.S. sociopolitical climate marked by rising racial tension and civil unrest, social work students and educators are engaged in dialogues throughout the country regarding the role of the profession in combating injustice. The emergence of the Movement for Black Lives as well as numerous high-profile police shootings of unarmed Black men prompted the exploration of praxis-based pedagogical approaches in social work education. This article provides an overview of a cocurricular student orientation developed by a group of social work students and educators in an effort to promote racial justice. Through the emergent planning process, principles of critical race theory and liberation theory were infused throughout the orientation event and related curriculum content.  相似文献

An interactional basis for the evolution of a paranoid cycle is presented, followed by its implications for clinical intervention. Treatment strategies and tactics are delineated along with a set of clinical examples. The major therapeutic principle advocated is for the therapist to help to build new action based upon old labels and premises. The danger of using static labels of pathology is clarified through the example of the paranoid cycle. Finally, the interactional view of the paranoid cycle is briefly related to the paradigm shift within our field. True to strategic intervention tactics, the reframing of traditional labels used by the field in general is advocated as the best pathway to change.  相似文献

Conditional and unconditional confidence intervals have been compared by Grice, Bain, and Engelhardt (Commun. Statist. B7 (1978), 515–524) in terms of the location-scale model with double-exponential distribution form. Preference was found for the conditional intervals based on mean length and coverage probability for untrue parameters values. These two criteria for a location-scale system are shown to be inappropriate criteria for assessing the conditional versus unconditional approaches to inference. The usual ancillarity concept is also noted to be inappropriate. Support for many conditional analyses, however, is found in a more careful formulation of the statistical model.  相似文献

The two-parameter gamma model is widely used in reliability, environmental, medical and other areas of statistics. It has a two-dimensional sufficient statistic, and a two-dimensional parameter which can be taken to describe shape and mean. This makes it closely comparable to the normal model, but it differs substantially in that the exact distribution for the minimal sufficient statistic is not available. Some recently developed asymptotic theory is used to derive an approximation for observed levels of significance and confidence intervals for the mean parameter of the model. The approximation is as easy to apply as first-order methods, and substantially more accurate.  相似文献

In this article the Behrens-Fisher problem is reformulated in terms of a structural model of inference. For this version of the problem a solution is obtained which is valid for arbitrary absolutely continuous error distributions. This paper examines the diabolisation of Oksapmin tamam (here glossed as ‘witchcraft’) as an example of negative cosmological integration. The article takes as its point of departure Robbins's model of cultural syncretism developed in a series of recent papers, wherein diabolisation occurs as people insert those aspects of their indigenous religion that do not contravene the Christian God's paramount creative power into the Christian cosmos as representatives of the Devil. Through my own discussion of the diabolisation of Oksapmin witchcraft, I build upon the model in three main ways. First, I draw attention to the role of the mission in providing and enforcing these negative moral terms of reference. Second, the article highlights that in cases of negative cosmological integration, whether within or outside the frame of Pentecostalist Christianity, syncretic melding and mixing may occur, regardless of rhetoric to the contrary. Finally, I point out that the subordination of indigenous religious realities within the Christian cosmos does not necessarily entail their restriction or reduction of expression, as Robbins shows for the Urapmin nature spirits known as motobil. Indeed, in the case of witchcraft, integration into the Christian cosmos and related complexes of deliverance may actually serve to intensify and amplify their expression.  相似文献

This article considers the life of Sarah Hicks, a young middle class woman born and raised in the cultural milieu of antebellum New York, who, in 1853, married Benjamin F. Williams, a physician and slaveholder from Greene County North Carolina. The article traces her literal journey across the Mason–Dixon line where she encountered southern ways of life that were, in the first instance, bewildering to her. Gender forms the primary focus of the article as Sarah moved from a northern gender ideal of true womanhood to that of the plantation mistress. Her search for a sense of belonging as a southerner suggests a period of transition in her life as she reconfigured what it meant to a woman, wife, and mother in the antebellum world of the slaveholding South.  相似文献
