王鸿一的"村本政治"思想及其对梁漱溟的影响

王鸿一依据古代"乡治"提出了"村本政治"思想,以农村为基本单位进行政治、经济、文化建设,再由"村治"逐级达到"国治".他的这一思想及其为倡导"村本政治"而进行的社会活动影响了梁漱溟走上乡村建设道路.王鸿一从宣传、人力、物力、财力等方面给予了梁漱溟帮助.在20世纪30年代初形成了一场在全国颇有影响的乡村建设运动.     

Variables acceptance reliability sampling plan for items subject to inverse Gaussian degradation process

Until now, in the literature, a variety of acceptance reliability sampling plans have been developed based on different life test plans. In most of the reliability sampling plans, the decision procedures to accept or reject the corresponding lot are developed based on the lifetimes of the items observed on tests, or the number of failures observed during a pre-specified testing time. However, frequently, the items are subject to degradation phenomena and, in these cases, the observed degradation level of the item can be used as a decision statistic. In this paper, we develop a variables acceptance sampling plan based on the information on the degradation process of the items, assuming that the degradation process follows the inverse Gaussian process. It is shown that the developed sampling plan improves the reliability performance of the items conditional on the acceptance in the test and that the lifetimes of items after the reliability sampling test are stochastically larger than those before the test. A study comparing the proposed degradation-based sampling plan with the conventional sampling plan which is based on a life test is also performed.KEYWORDS: Variables sampling plan, degradation test, inverse Gaussian process, mixture distribution, stochastic ordering     

A note on ‘curable’ shock processes

In most conventional shock models, the events caused by an external shock are initiated at the moments of its occurrence. Recently, Cha and Finkelstein (2012) had considered the case when each shock from a nonhomogeneous Poisson processes can trigger a failure of a system not immediately, as in the classical shock models, but with delay of some random time. In this paper, we suggest the new type of shock models, where each delayed failure can be cured (repaired) with certain probabilities. These shock processes have not been considered in the literature before. We derive and analyze the corresponding survival and failure rate functions and consider a meaningful reliability example of the stress–strength model.     

Some results on discrete mixture failure rates

Some properties of the discrete mixture failure rates are studied. Specifically, similar to the continuous case, it is shown that the population mixture failure rate is always smaller than the unconditional expectation in the family of subpopulations failure rates. The analog of the multiplicative and the additive frailty models is introduced via the corresponding survival function. Another approach via the alternative discrete failure rate is also discussed. Stochastic comparisons for two mixed distributions with equal and different mixing distributions are studied.     

The relationship between serum total testosterone and free testosterone levels with serum hemoglobin and hematocrit levels: a study in 1221 men

Objective: To investigate the relationship between serum total testosterone (TT) and free testosterone (FT) levels in men with anemia.

Methods: We reviewed the records of 1221 subjects between March 2009 and December 2014. All the subjects’ blood samples were drawn for TT and FT assays. Their serum hemoglobin (Hb) and serum hematocrit (Hct) levels were measured. The primary objective of our study was to investigate the association between TT and FT levels with Hb and Hct levels.

Results: The mean age was 59.82?±?12.71 years. The mean TT and FT levels were 4.54?±?2.02?ng/mL and 10.63?±?3.69?pg/mL, respectively. The mean Hb and Hct levels were 14.72?±?1.34?g/dL and 43.11?±?3.75%, respectively. Subjects with low TT (<2.35?ng/mL) had low Hb and Hct levels (p?p?Conclusions: Subjects with low TT and FT levels had low Hb and Hct levels. This suggests that TT and FT play a significant role in erythropoiesis. Testosterone replacement therapy may be effective in men with hypogonadism to reduce the incidence of anemia.     

Capitalism's global financial crisis: The role of the state

The bankruptcy and merger of three major American investment banks: Bear Stearns, Lehmann Brothers and Merrill Lynch in 2008 have shocked the United States government to undertake dramatic market intervention by the state, and a $700 billion U.S. dollar bailout, that resembles “industrial policy” in many other countries. Critics of market intervention, often called industrial policy in many countries, point out to two potential weaknesses: governments may have less knowledge than markets on how to pick winners and industrial policy creates possibilities of corruption and rent seeking. This research note's contribution analyzes the global financial crisis of 2008 and 2009, through the importance of, institutional infrastructures, and how industrial policy can help create the institutional infrastructures that can expand economic wealth and stability for all countries in the 21st century.     

Meta‐analysis of depression among marriage‐based migrant women in South Korea

Using meta‐analysis, this study examines the effect sizes of the variables related to depression and the moderating effects of depression among marriage‐based migrant women in South Korea to determine the implications for human service fields. This study identified 25 peer‐reviewed articles from 2000 to 2014 published in either Korean or in English. Results showed that (i) Korean language proficiency and economic hardship had significant effect sizes relative to depression; (ii) the psychosocial characteristics (i.e., acculturative stress, social support, marital satisfaction, life satisfaction, and self‐esteem) of this population had medium effect sizes relative to depression; and (iii) use of the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression scale, residence in agricultural areas, average age, and average length of stay in Korea had significant moderating effects. Based on these results, the authors discuss social work practices and policies for this population, suggesting the priorization of marriage‐based migrant women in agricultural areas who have lived in Korea for short lengths of time.     

Mitigating Intergenerational Trauma Within the Parent‐Child Attachment

Nine‐year‐old Ben was said to hate women. His mother was terrified he'd ‘grow up a woman basher’. This paper describes the work done with Ben and his family at the Hobart Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service. We drew predominantly on three therapeutic modalities: Theraplay, Family Attachment Narrative Therapy and Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy. Our work enabled Ben's mother to navigate the aftermath of her own trauma history in order to heal Ben's attachment trauma.     

Differences in the relationship between depression and self-rated life satisfaction in older Korean and Chinese immigrants

This study aims to examine self-rated life satisfaction and describe its relationship with depression and socioeconomic status among older Chinese and Korean immigrants. A cross-sectional study of 175 older Chinese immigrants and 205 older Korean immigrants was conducted in Los Angeles County. The study found that depression was negatively associated with self-rated life satisfaction for both the Chinese and Korean groups. For older Chinese immigrants, depression was the only significant factor related to self-rated life satisfaction. However, for older Korean immigrants, age, education, and depression were significantly associated with self-rated life satisfaction. This study suggests empirical strategies to reduce depression among these populations, such as the importance of culturally-tailored programs.
