The identities of women leaders can fall under intense scrutiny; they are often confronted with other's perceptions of them—perceptions that may not be wholly accurate. Through in-depth qualitative interviews of senior women leaders working in male-dominated industries, we explore how they experience and respond to feeling misidentified (internal identity asymmetry; Meister, Jehn, & Thatcher, 2014) throughout their careers. Employing grounded theory methods, we uncover how women are likely to experience asymmetry, and discover it becomes most salient during personal and professional identity transitions. We build theory with respect to how women leaders navigate feeling misidentified, and find with time and power the experience becomes less salient. Our study draws together and contributes to both the identity and leadership literatures by exploring an important identity challenge facing women leaders in industries that are striving for a greater gender-balance in senior positions. 相似文献

Recognizing the fit between family medicine and marriage and family therapy (MFT), members of both fields have made significant advances in collaborative health research and practice. To add to this work, we surveyed a nationwide random sample of 240 family physicians (FPs) and asked about their perspectives and experiences of collaboration with MFTs. We found that FPs frequently perceive a need for their patients to receive MFT-related care, but their referral to and collaboration with MFTs were limited. Through responses to an open-ended question, we gained valuable information as to how MFTs could more effectively initiate collaboration with FPs. 相似文献

Research on unintended fertility tends to focus on births as isolated events. This article expands previous research by examining
the relationship between early unintended childbearing and subsequent fertility dynamics in the United States. Data from the
2002 National Survey of Family Growth show that 27.5% of mothers report an unintended first birth. We use event history methods
to show that these women are significantly more likely than women with an intended first birth to have an unintended second
birth than to have either no second birth or an intended second birth, net of sociodemographic characteristics. An unintended
first birth also increases the risk of having an unintended third birth relative to no birth or an intended birth, independent
of the intendedness of the second birth. We conclude that early unintended fertility is a strong signal of high risk for subsequent

This article uses data and theory from psychological and sociological sources in order to examine computer gamers engagement with computer games. The article employs data from studies of gender difference in computer game interactions in order to theoretically open up the rich diversity of gamers interactions with games. The theoretical discussion employs a mix of psychological ideas, especially those of affordances, effectivities and attunement, with ideas from cultural studies, especially those of subject positions and preferred readings. The article argues that gaming needs to be viewed as an activity taking place in cultural niches that arise in the complex interaction between games, gamers and gaming cultures. 相似文献

Australia's new National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) uses individualised funding packages instead of traditional block‐funded disability services to support people with disability. The NDIS works with the person and their family to assess the person's needs and develop a plan that determines their funding allocation. Funding can be used to purchase support from a disability service or from the open market. People can purchase support that suits their cultural and personal preferences. This paper examined whether individual funding packages met their aims in Western Australia, where they had been the primary mechanism of disability support for over 25 years. An exploratory case study was conducted consisting of face‐to‐face, in‐depth interviews with 11 key participants: people with disability, senior government administrators, service provider managers, and a support worker. Complex systems theory was used to review the data and findings showed that individualised funding packages did not automatically result in more choice and greater opportunities. People needed information to make informed decisions; supportive and creative support from social workers and other professionals; and welcoming communities. The findings can inform policies and assist social workers facilitate maximum choice and opportunities for people with disability and their families. 相似文献

Child maltreatment is associated with detrimental developmental effects. In view of the fact that child maltreatment typically
occurs within the context of a caretaking relationship, attachment theory can give us insight into the nature of difficulties
experienced by survivors. Therapeutic preschool has been found effective in addressing developmental problems in abused children.
This study examines the effectiveness of an attachment-based therapeutic preschool for maltreated children. Means tests indicate
that, at the time of discharge, the children being served had made significant overall developmental gains as well as significant
