Organizations are moving toward self-development as a means to supplement formal leader development programs. However, the highly individualized nature of self-development presents unique challenges for evaluation. We suggest a mixed methods approach, including not only a summative evaluation (i.e., examining self-development outcomes), but also emphasizing a formative evaluation (i.e., examining why certain self-development activities are more or less effective). Accordingly, the purpose of this article is threefold. We first introduce a taxonomy of attributes indicative of the effectiveness level of a leader self-development activity. Second, we present a methodology for utilizing this taxonomy to evaluate whether a given self-development activity, or collection of activities, is higher or lower in effectiveness. We also describe some data from two field studies to illustrate the link between this taxonomy and the performance outcomes of task performance, team performance, and leader adaptive performance. Finally, we discuss the practical implications of undertaking an evaluation utilizing this taxonomy. 相似文献

Flood risk management decisions in many countries are based on decision-support frameworks which rely on cost-benefit analyses. Such frameworks are seldom informative about the geographical distribution of risk, raising questions on the fairness of the proposed policies. In the present work, we propose a new decision criterion that accounts for the distribution of risk reduction and apply it to support flood risk management decisions on a transboundary stretch of the Rhine River. Three types of interventions are considered: embankment heightening, making Room for the River, and changing the discharge distribution of the river branches. The analysis involves solving a flood risk management problem according to four alternative formulations, based on different ethical principles. Formulations based on cost optimization lead to very poor performances in some areas for the sake of reducing the overall aggregated costs. Formulations that also include equity criteria have different results depending on how these are defined. When risk reduction is distributed equally, very poor economic performance is achieved. When risk is distributed equally, results are in line with formulations based on cost optimization, while a fairer risk distribution is achieved. Risk reduction measures also differ, with the cost optimization approach strongly favoring the leverage of changing the discharge distribution and the alternative formulations spending more on embankment heightening and Room for the River, to rebalance inequalities in risk levels. The proposed method advances risk-based decision-making by allowing to consider risk distribution aspects and their impacts on the choice of risk reduction measures. 相似文献

Most OECD countries have experienced an increase of female part-time employment in the last decades. It has been argued that part-time work may give greater employment flexibility, enabling mothers to reconcile conflicting demands of family and work and thereby facilitating their integration into the wage economy. At the same time, it has been suggested that female part-time work implies segmentation of the labour force into a core and a periphery, with marginalized, low qualified jobs for part-time employees. However, little attention has been given to the possible mediating effect of the institutional context on potential job quality disadvantages of part-timers. We examine this question by comparing the skills and autonomy of female part-time workers in two countries, Britain and Sweden, often considered as representing quite distinct forms of institutional regime. The results show that female part-time employees in Sweden hold positions of higher skill and have more autonomy compared to their equivalents in Britain. Even so, both British and Swedish part-time employees face relative disadvantage when compared to female full-time workers. We conclude that differences in the institutional systems of Sweden and Britain do have a significant effect on the absolute skill level of part-time work. However, the relative disadvantage of part-timers persists despite Swedish policies giving greater salience to improvements in the quality of work. 相似文献

Residents of the county of Osterg?tland, Sweden, who were 16-64 years of age in December 1984 and not pensioned (n=229,864), were followed in a prospective, cohort, study of data collected between 1985 and 1996. Using survival methods as the method of analysis, the likelihood of being granted a disability pension was 14% for women, 11% for men, and increased with age. Women less than 54 years of age were at higher risk than men (P<0.001), 69% of disability pensions granted were full-time and 31% were part-time, more women received part-time pensions (P<0.001). Whether the differences observed are due to gender bias in social insurance practices, to disease patterns, to occupational and work-related factors, or to a cohort effect has yet to be determined. 相似文献

The model chi-square that is used in linear structural equation modeling compares the fitted covariance matrix of a target
model to an unstructured covariance matrix to assess global fit. For models with nonlinear terms, i.e., interaction or quadratic
terms, this comparison is very problematic because these models are not nested within the saturated model that is represented
by the unstructured covariance matrix. We propose a novel measure that quantifies the heteroscedasticity of residuals in structural
equation models. It is based on a comparison of the likelihood for the residuals under the assumption of heteroscedasticity
with the likelihood under the assumption of homoscedasticity. The measure is designed to respond to omitted nonlinear terms
in the structural part of the model that result in heteroscedastic residual scores. In a small Monte Carlo study, we demonstrate
that the measure appears to detect omitted nonlinear terms reliably when falsely a linear model is analyzed and the omitted
nonlinear terms account for substantial nonlinear effects. The results also indicate that the measure did not respond when
