THE IMPLICATIONS OF CHANGING EDUCATION AND GENDER INPUTS FOR POLICE DECISIONMAKING AND SUPERVISORY ROLES

This article reports the results of a survey of 43 Queensland police officers, half in supervisory roles and half immediately prior to induction. The purpose of the survey was to identify gender and educational differences between groups, and to identify any effect that these differences may have had on attitudes toward decision-making within the sample. The results were compared to a similar survey of American police chiefs. Attitudes toward decision-making were found to be similar among all groups with the exception of the perception of the ability to implement change. This was found to be significantly higher among women and those with a tertiary education. It was also suggested that female officers have the potential to excel in police managerial positions due to higher education levels, but they are currently seriously under-represented in supervisory and managerial positions.

Lone Parents and Civil Law: Their Experience of Problems and Their Advice-seeking Behaviour

The percentage of dependent children living in lone‐parent families has more than tripled in Britain over the last 30 years. Though there is much diversity within this lone‐parent population, there are common experiences and characteristics. Lone‐parent families tend to be headed by women, to be poor, on benefits and experience problems with ill health and disability. This paper examines lone parenthood in the context of the experience of justiciable problems (problems for which there is a potential legal remedy), drawing upon a large‐scale survey of 5,611 people representative of the population of England and Wales. The survey included 223 lone parents, who were likely to be female, to be living in rented accommodation, to be on a low income, to be economically inactive and to be in receipt of benefits. Lone parents were significantly more likely than others to have experienced a justiciable problem. Lone parents sought advice for their problems more often than others, particularly from solicitors, even after controlling for problems experienced. Lone parents were more likely than others to receive legal‐aid funding. Lastly, lone parents found trying to resolve problems particularly stressful, though they tended to believe that their life had improved as a consequence of doing so.

诉权是提起诉讼的权利,其实质是司法保护请求权.在权利易受权力侵害的刑事诉讼中,赋予被追诉人享有诉权有正当性基础.在我国,刑事被追诉人面对自己权利遭受国家权力不法侵害却不能直接以行使诉权方式请求法院救济,这不论是对权利保护还是对防范权力滥用都极为不利.为此,有必要赋予被追诉人享有诉权,这对于我国法治建设有重要意义.

市级政府规模的影响因素实证分析——以安徽省为例

以安徽省16个地级市为研究样本,将其分为皖中、皖南和皖北3个区域,分别考察其政府规模变动的影响因素及影响程度。研究表明,财政分权、地方竞争、经济发展水平和贸易开放程度这四个因素对不同区域存在着不同影响;基于以上研究结果,提出了优化安徽省地级市政府规模的相关建议。

对竞技体育在高校公共体育课教学位置合理的质疑经不起体育发展历史、理论与教学实践的推敲。竞技体育起源于民间,与群众体育相容,竞技性的体育强国战略可与普及性的体育发达国家战略结合。虽然公共体育教学与专业体育教育有较大的区别,但其密切联系也不容抹杀,公共体育课的任务与课堂教学特点均决定其应有竞技技能培养的组成部分,而且应成为课堂教学的核心与目标。
