The Four Es is a 40-item scale measuring psychological risk for the development of problem gambling behavior. One-year follow-up interviews
(n = 395) from a previously reported phone survey in Queensland, Australia (n = 2,577) (Rockloff & Dyer, 2006) tested the ability of the Four Es instrument to prospectively identify persons who would later develop gambling problems.
Two groups of participants were selected for the 1-year follow-up interviews, including (1) persons who had gambling problems,
high-risk alcohol abuse problems, and/or substance abuse problems (abuse group); and (2) a random selection of other persons
from the original survey (random group). The results indicated that the “Excess” trait, which measures impulsive behavior,
was predictive of relative increases in gambling problems for both groups over the 1-year period. Additionally, the Four Es
questionnaire showed good psychometric properties in the surveys, with a test-retest reliability of r = .70 and a Cronbach’s alpha reliability of α = .90 and .92 in the original and follow-up interviews, respectively. 相似文献

The role of positive and negative social exchanges between adolescents, their peers and family as predictors of suicide ideation
was investigated in a national random sample of 1591 adolescents from the US National Comorbidity Survey. Four indexes measured
socio-emotional exchanges by type (positive or negative) and by source (family or peers). Negative exchanges with family were
associated with increased suicide ideation scores in younger (15–17) but not in older (18–19) adolescents. Positive support
provided as significant buffering effect that was age-specific and independent of gender, income or mood disorders. Providers,
especially social workers need to identify both positive and negative exchanges that adolescents experience with family and

We conduct a comprehensive examination of the gender differences in pay focusing on multiple perspectives emanating from economics, social psychology, and gender studies. Data are drawn from surveys of MBA students conducted by the Graduate Management Admissions Council. Although women in both samples earn significantly less on average than men, when the effects of the study's variables are considered via multiple regression analysis, no significant difference in annual salary is observed. Our results show the importance of simultaneously considering the impact of human capital, job and firm characteristics, demographics, and cognitive skills. Structural differences are noted in the models estimated separately for men and women. However, the results from decomposing salary differentials are quite consistent with estimates from the single-equation models. 相似文献

The European bond market is made up of many segments characterised by varying levels of liquidity and of pre- and post-trade
transparency. The possibility of extending the transparency provisions envisioned in the Directive 2004/39/EC, disciplining
the functioning of markets in financial instruments in Europe (MiFID), from the equity to the bond market is currently being
discussed. This poses risks to the status quo through trading fragmentation and strong negotiating power of a few large dealers,
particularly with respect to small retail investors. The main conclusion of the paper is that if MiFID transparency rules
are to be extended to the bond market, this must be “real” transparency, meaning pre-trade dissemination of real-time executable
prices and a transparent order book. Under current provisions, this kind of information is available if not directly to everybody,
at least directly to dealers and indirectly to professional and retail clients through business-to-business electronic platforms. 相似文献

The Nature and Consequences of Organization-Employee and Union-Member Exchange: An Empirical Analysis 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Drawing on a study of 423 union members in a UK Primary Care Trust, we use structural equation modeling to investigate the extent to which organizational and union commitment and citizenship behaviors are a function of economic and social exchange. Findings suggest that the organization-employee and union-member exchanges are distinct, with organizational commitment a function of organization-employee exchange and union commitment and citizenship behaviors (UCB) a function of union-member exchange. Findings also suggest that union commitment and UCB are motivated primarily by social exchange, with economic exchange playing a supporting role. In addition, for organizational commitment, social exchange also seemed to be relatively more important. There was no evidence that perceived industrial relations climate moderates these relationships. Implications for industrial relations and workplace social partnerships are considered. 相似文献

Two studies examined the relationships among injunctive norms and college student gambling. In study 1 we evaluated the accuracy
of perceptions of other students’ approval of gambling and the relationship between perceived approval and gambling behavior.
In study 2 we evaluated gambling behavior as a function of perceptions of approval of other students, friends, and family.
In study 1, which included 2524 college students, perceptions of other students’ approval of gambling were found to be overestimated
and were negatively associated with gambling behavior. The results of study 2, which included 565 college students, replicated the findings of
study 1 and revealed positive associations between gambling behavior and perceived approval of friends and family. Results highlight the complexity of
injunctive norms and the importance of considering the reference group (e.g., peers, friends, family members) in their evaluation.
Results also encourage caution in considering the incorporation of injunctive norms in prevention and intervention approaches. 相似文献
