Free collective bargaining, i. e. the right of the two sides of industry to autonomously regulate the terms of employment without any state interference, is one of the core elements of many industrial democracies. The continuous existence of this institution, which, in Austria, avoids or reduces industrial action to an absolute minimum, can be explained by a mutual interest of both, labour and capital representatives, in macroeconomic and political stability. Trade unions usually achieve the internal legitimacy of their rank-and-file and effectiveness of the bargaining system as a whole through substantive improvements of the living and working conditions of their members. Against the background of an economic recession and decreasing membership, trade unions are forced to provide other sources of legitimacy to prevent sanctions by their members. The key question of this paper therefore focuses on how unions are able to equally maintain effectiveness and legitimacy of the collective bargaining institution. In the paper, this question will be dealt with by the example of collective bargaining in an exposed branch of the Austrian industry. 相似文献

The use of telehealthcare systems to promote independent living for elderly people is growing. The results presented in this article, derived from an initial user lab test of a telecare system—GiraffPlus—indicate that the crucial factor for adoption of telehealthcare systems is not usability but the system's ability to support autonomy in everyday life. Eleven users tested the usability and reported what they perceived as possible benefits of having such a system at home. To support autonomy, customization is crucial for the system to be perceived as meaningful for the individual. Our analysis confirms previous research. 相似文献

The author examines a particular form of addictive exploitation of sensory experience to extend Meltzer’s concept of claustrum states. She elaborates how bodily experience—both the patient’s and the analyst’s—is key to emergence from these states. When studying a regression model measures of explained variation are used to assess the degree to which the covariates determine the outcome of interest. Measures of predictive accuracy are used to assess the accuracy of the predictions based on the covariates and the regression model. We give a detailed and general introduction to the two measures and the estimation procedures. ABSTRACTAlthough studies suggest that transformational leaders play an important role in employee health and well-being, the relationship between transformational leadership and employee burnout remains unclear. One reason may be that moderators may play an important role. Building on conservation of resources theory, we examined if leaders’ perceptions of internal and external resources in terms of vigour and peer support augmented the relationship between transformational leadership and employee burnout in a sample of municipality workers and their leaders in Sweden (N?=?217). Multilevel analyses over two time points revealed that both vigour and peer support enhance this relationship, such that when leaders experience high levels of vigour or peer support, the negative relationship between transformational leadership behaviours and employee burnout was strengthened. Our findings suggest that both personal and contextual resources may help leaders to better engage in transformational leadership, which is important in order to protect employees from burning out. 相似文献
