There is growing interest in the application of Townsend's deprivation approach to provide estimates of poverty that more directly reflect the living standards of those on low income. The consensual approach is applied here using data from the second wave (conducted in 2015–2016) of the Trends and Implications of Social Disadvantages in Hong Kong survey. The article draws on a related study that identifies separate lists of items deemed “necessary for all” by a majority of adults (aged 18 years or older) and children (aged 10–17 years). Those unable to obtain at least three of these items are identified as deprived, and the profile of household deprivation is examined in terms of the family types most affected, age groups, and numbers of children. Further analysis focuses on the disparity between children identified as living in households identified as deprived according to information provided by adults and children whose deprivation status reflects their own views. Finally, the overlaps between deprivation and four measures of poverty—two objective and income based and two subjective and perception based—are examined and discussed. The results indicate that deprivation and poverty are different but that, however it is measured, more needs to be done to address poverty in Hong Kong, including further improvements in the coverage and adequacy of health service provision and social security benefits. 相似文献

The aim of this study is to analyze team resilience as a collective psychosocial construct in the framework of the conservation of resources theory. Specifically, the authors hypothesize that (a) team-level resources and (b) organizational-level healthy practices would be positively related to team resilience. Multilevel regression modeling was conducted, using data from 1,167 employees nested in 194 work teams (team level) from 38 organizations (organizational level). Results confirmed the hypotheses having team-level resources and organizational-level healthy practices significant relationships with team resilience. This study provides evidence that team and organizational resources have a strong relationship with team resilience. Practitioners and managers must take these results into account for planning how to manage their resources within the organization. The paper investigates how far a particular procedure, called the “descending demand procedure,” can take us in finding equitable
allocations of indivisible goods. Both interpersonal and intrapersonal criteria of equitability are considered. It is shown
that the procedure generally fares well on an interpersonal criterion of “balancedness”; specifically, the resulting allocations
are Pareto-optimal and maximize the well-being of the worst-off individual. As a criterion of intrapersonal equitability,
the property of envy-freeness is considered. To accommodate envy-freeness, a modification of the basic procedure is suggested.
With two individuals, the modified procedure is shown to select the envy-free allocations that are balanced, i.e. the allocations
that maximize the well-being of the worse-off individual among all envy-free allocations.

This article looks at ‘educational’ migration instigated by the Danish programme of agricultural apprenticeships, which since the late 1990s has brought many young Ukrainians to rural Denmark. It discusses discrepancies between the logic of achievement implied by the programme’s ideology on the one hand, and Ukrainian apprentices’ aspirations to social mobility on the other hand. In this way, the article questions the concept of ‘community of practice’ that has been used to describe the formation of a social persona sharing the values of this community. Using ethnographic case studies of former apprentices, I argue that while apprenticeships often fail to produce a shared social and professional identity within a community of practice, there are many ways in which the experiences afforded by Danish apprenticeships lead to (sometimes unforeseen) achievements. 相似文献

This study explores the role of transformational leadership and the values incorporated in a learning culture in promoting ambidexterity (the ability to explore new capabilities while exploiting existing ones) in teams involved in acquisition integrations. Data from a field study of an acquisition integration (N = 71 work teams) support hypotheses arguing that transformational leadership behaviors and the development of a learning culture, characterized by psychological safety, openness to diverse opinions, and participation in decision making, promote ambidexterity at the team level. This phenomenon is induced by the incompatibility of the Aitchison geometry and the Lebesgue measure. A Lebesgue-type measure, compatible with the algebraic geometric structure of the simplex, is used here to define the skew-normal density on the simplex as the Radon-Nykodym derivative with respect to it. In Bayesian Inference it is often desirable to have a posterior density reflecting mainly the information from sample data. To achieve this purpose it is important to employ prior densities which add little information to the sample. The three-parameter log-elliptical distribution class is developed for the general situation in which the hypothesis of independence for the elements in a sample is not assumed. The parameter estimators are theoretically showed to be invariant under all distributions in the class by considering only a change in the constant of the scale parameter estimator. An estimation procedure based on the three-parameter lognormal distribution is proposed for the parameter estimation problem in any three-parameter log-elliptical distribution.
