再谈并列双音词的字序

本文在声调决定并列式双音词字序的前提下 ,对声调所无法解释的 135个并列式双音词进行详细的量化分析 ,根据每个词产生时代的语音特点 ,探求字序排列的原因 ,得出并列式双音词的字序受元音舌位高低和谐规律制约的结论 ,进而解释了声调规律所无法解释的一些问题     

Sibling loss and fertility desires in the high-mortality context of Peru

Despite demographers’ long-standing preoccupation with the effects of child mortality on women’s fertility desires, scholars continue to know little about the consequences of other pervasive mortality exposures. We use nationally representative data from the high-mortality context of Peru to examine whether the desire to have a(nother) child varies as a function of sibling loss and to assess heterogeneity in this association by women’s current number of children and a range of conditions related to siblings’ deaths. Women who have experienced sibling bereavement and have two or more children report higher odds of desiring another child. These effects are not contingent on the age or sex of the deceased sibling but are only significant if the sibling died during the respondent’s lifetime (not before). These findings highlight the theoretical and empirical import of investigating the relationship between fertility desires and a wider range of familial mortality exposures beyond own child mortality.     

The developing program on social indicators at the U.S. Bureau of the Census

The Bureau of the Census Fiscal Year 1978 Budget provides funds for the first time for beginning a modest but coordinated effort in the field of social indicators and associated activities. The Bureau, buttressed by the advice and participation of other Government agencies, organizations and individuals outside of the Federal establishment long interested in social indicators, intends to:

1. consolidate and extend the development of the concepts and principles advanced previously relating to social indicators;
2. continue and expand the efforts and communication network established at the Office of Management and Budget, in connection with the preparation of the Social Indicators 1973 and 1976 reports;
3. systematically identify and assemble information sets and bits that are contained in censuses and surveys, household and establishment universes, administrative records, studies and projects capable of contributing to social indicator and social accounting development;
4. establish the basic analytic framework and an orderly set of detailed interrelated social accounts capable of being aggregated or disaggregated to appropriate levels of abstraction; and
5. prepare research and analytic studies and make available information generated from the social indicator and social accounting efforts at the Bureau, subject to limitations associated with confidentiality and copyright provisions pertaining to private sources of information.

The organizational structure to carry out this program consists of four primary work centers: information, social indicators, social accounts, and special studies. The structure is designed to provide for continuity of purpose, improve chances for individual achievement and group benefit, and to generate products that will contribute to a more accurate understanding of life experiences in the context of the interplay of social and economic forces and political and juridical institutions.

The Impact of Home Daycare on the Biological Children of Providers: Case Examples of Unintended Consequences

Home daycare is a huge cottage industry in America, but no studies exist that examine the positive or negative impact of daycare on the biological children of providers. This paper presents two case studies that describe the unintended negative impact of home daycare on the social and emotional development of the children of providers. In one case, a home-schooled, psychosomatically ill adolescent scorns her experiences with home daycare. The other case describes an oppositional 10-year-old boy’s positive and negative reactions. These cases serve to illustrate several critical issues that biological children face when parents decide to operate a daycare program from their home. A special focus is on the vulnerable child whose ability to cope with other children may be compromised by temperamental factors or a history of family or personal trauma. Implications are discussed.
