One of the major aims of one-dimensional extreme-value theory is to estimate quantiles outside the sample or at the boundary of the sample. The underlying idea of any method to do this is to estimate a quantile well inside the sample but near the boundary and then to shift it somehow to the right place. The choice of this “anchor quantile” plays a major role in the accuracy of the method. We present a bootstrap method to achieve the optimal choice of sample fraction in the estimation of either high quantile or endpoint estimation which extends earlier results by Hall and Weissman (1997) in the case of high quantile estimation. We consider the construction and properties of influence functions in the context of functional measurement error models with replicated data. In these models estimates of the parameters can be affected both by the individual observations and the means of replicated observations. In this paper, an exact sufficient condition for the dominance of the Stein-type shrinkage estimator over the usual unbiased estimator in a partial linear model is exhibited. Comparison result is then done under the balanced loss function. It is assumed that the vector of disturbances is typically distributed according to the law belonging to the sub-class of elliptically contoured models. It is also shown that the dominance condition is robust. In this paper we discuss higher-order and non-stationary properties of LAM-PAED'S (1968) stochastic reversible counter model whose output is a stochastic point process with MABKOV dependent time intervals. Statistical properties of the primed counter system, are also considered. A characterization of the probability density function of the interval lengths and the probability distribution of the counts by means of a mixed POXSSOH process is then derived. The distribution of counts of the primed counter system is shown to be mathematically equivalent to the birth-and-death process with immigration. In this paper, WILKS'type-B integral equation is solved in the general form of a series of beta functions and a series of weighted gamma functions as proposed by WALD and BROOKNER 1941. The coefficients in both representations can be obtained by explicit recurrence relartions, therefore the results solve many distributional problems and have the fewest computational difficulties of any representation that has surfaced to date. The radius of convergence of the second series representation is given, whereas the convergence property of the first series representation is given, whereas the convergence property of the first series representation was studied by WALD and Brookner. The paper reconsider certain estimators proposed by COHENand SACKROWITZ[Ann.Statist.(1974)2,1274-1282,Ann.Statist.4,1294]for the common mean of two normal distributions on the basis of independent samples of equal size from the two populations. It derives the ncecessary and sufficient condition for improvement over the first sample mean, under squared error loss, for any member of a class containing these. It shows that the estimator proposded by them for simultaneous improvement over botyh sample means has the desired property if and only if the common size of the samples is at least nine. The requirement is milder than that for any other estimator at the present state of knolwledge and may be constrasted with their result which implies the desired property of the estimator only if the common size of the samples is at least fifteen.
