Locating the optimal operating conditions of the process parameters is critical in a lifetime improvement experiment. For log-normal lifetime distribution with compound error structure (i.e., symmetry, inter-class and intra-class correlation error structures), we have developed methods for construction of D-optimal robust first order designs. It is shown that D-optimal robust first order designs are always robust first order rotatable but the converse is not always true.  相似文献

The migration of the Nepalis to Northeast India for cattle grazing and dairy farming since the last years of the nineteenth century evolved as a mainstay of later Nepali migrations in the twentieth century. It is significant that this group of migrants enjoyed active colonial patronage, along with the labourers and Gurkha soldiers in the army, but was among the first to face the impact of changing colonial land and taxation policies. Government policies of exclusion and nativist attitudes in post-independence India caused them considerable insecurity about their status in the region. This paper highlights the evolution of the Nepali dairy farmers as an important economic group within the larger group of Nepali migrants in Northeast India, and looks at the issues that led to a redefinition of their relations in the host country and articulations for reassertion/or search for an identity in India.  相似文献

User participation has been promoted to improve the quality, responsiveness, and outreach of public services in India. This qualitative study evaluates new grassroots institutions—Village Education Committees and Mothers’ Committees—in Andhra Pradesh, which promoting parents’ participation in the management and monitoring of local schools and maternal/child health services. Although the committees were found to have increased participation in public affairs by the poor and brought about some improvements in service quality, inclusive and meaningful participation has often been hindered by illiteracy and lack of information, as well as caste, gender, and socioeconomic inequalities. The article suggests that there are considerable tensions between inclusive participation and committee effectiveness as members need skills, status, and resources in order to have a meaningful impact on service provision. In addition, research findings point to the need for more structured opportunities for committee members to interact with authorities and service providers, as well as for children to voice their concerns and ideas. Lastly, in order to tackle childhood poverty more holistically, the focus of these committees should be revised to give greater emphasis to improving service quality improvements and cross-sectoral synergies, rather than the current move narrow focus on infrastructural development and singlesector initiatives.  相似文献

Based on in-depth interviews with 24 middle-class Indian child participants, this is the first exploratory qualitative study, in India, to demonstrate the ways in which children as reflexive social actors re-negotiated everyday schedules, drew on classed resources at their disposal and made sense of the impact of the pandemic on their educational pathways and future aspirations. These narratives offer a unique lens on the politics of middle-classness and its constitutive relation to constructions of normative childhoods in contemporary India. Study findings contribute to the sociology of Indian childhood and more generally help enrich our understanding of southern childhoods and the reproduction of inequalities in contemporary India.  相似文献

This is an abridged version of a paper written for the Unesco, Paris, to explore the feasibility of studying in India the role of value systems and life goals in quality of life, with reference to social structural variations and the prevailing socioeconomic conditions. Time and money constraints did not permit the examination of Indian society in its structural and cultural diversity. The focus was on the indication of possibilities of variation in the subject matter and how to elicit such variations. Moreover, in its abridged form, the paper deals essentially with the methodology of studying the quality of life in any society instead of substantial findings.  相似文献

In this article, the design-oriented two-stage multiple three-decision procedure is proposed to classify a set of normal populations with respect to a control under heteroscedasticity. The statistical tables of percentage points and the power-related design constants, to implement our new two-stage procedure, are given. Sometimes when the sample for the second stage is not available, the one-stage data analysis procedure is proposed. Classifying a treatment better than control when it is actually worse (and vice versa) is known as type III error. Both the two-stage and one-stage procedures control the type III error rate at a specified level. The relationship between the two-stage and one-stage procedures is discussed. Finally, the application of the proposed procedures is illustrated with an example.  相似文献

We propose a simple two-stage monitoring rule for detecting small disorders in a two-sample location problem. The proposed rule is based on ranks and hence is nonparametric in nature. In the first stage, we use a sequential monitoring scheme to decide the necessity of employing a location test at some point of time. If there is urgency, we simply use a two-sample Wilcoxon rank sum test in the second stage. This leads to a semi sequential one-shot monitoring procedure. We study some asymptotic performance of the proposed rule. We also present some numerical findings obtained through Monte Carlo studies. The proposed rule meets the challenge of controlling type I error rate in sequential monitoring of an incoming series of observations.  相似文献

Generally it is very difficult to construct robust slope-rotatable designs along axial directions. Present paper focuses on modified second-order slope-rotatable designs (SOSRDs) with correlated errors. Modified robust second-order slope-rotatability conditions are derived for a general variance–covariance structure of errors. These conditions get simplified for intraclass correlation structure. A few robust second-order slope-rotatable designs (over all directions, or with equal maximum directional variance slope, or D-optimal slope) are examined with respect to modified robust slope-rotatability. It is observed that robust second-order slope-rotatable designs over all directions, or with equal maximum directional variance slope, or D-optimal slope are not generally modified robust second-order slope-rotatable designs.  相似文献

A social indicator in the context of planning, which induces a course of social change, is not a mere ‘good statistic’. While its validity depends on the relation drawn among its constituent properties, its relevance would depend upon the sequential relations it can draw with the other variables concerned with the envisaged course of change. And its necessity and efficiency will be rated accordingly as it can epitomize the situation which all these variables depict. A properly constructed set of indicators, therefore, may not only suggest the planning measures which should be employed but also throw light on a better formulation of the targets, goals and even the objective of planning. Roots and Wings is a comprehensive elementary‐school program designed to ensure that all children achieve world class standards in reading, writing and language arts, mathematics, science, history and geography; and can apply their knowledge to solve real‐world problems. Critical to these goals is increasing the achievement of students placed at‐risk as a consequence of poverty, disabilities, language problems, or other factors. Roots and Wings extensively employs cooperative learning to promote student motivation, socialization, appreciation of diversity, and academic achievement. Although cooperative learning offers a variety of potential benefits, it can be challenging to use for teachers and students more accustomed to traditional methods. This paper presents research in inner‐city elementary schools using the Roots and Wings design and identifies several factors that facilitate the change process and quality of cooperative classroom activities.  相似文献
