This article discusses regression analysis of multivariate panel count data in which the observation process may contain relevant information about or be related to the underlying recurrent event processes of interest. Such data occur if a recurrent event study involves several related types of recurrent events and the observation scheme or process may be subject-specific. For the problem, a class of semiparametric transformation models is presented, which provides a great flexibility for modelling the effects of covariates on the recurrent event processes. For estimation of regression parameters, an estimating equation-based inference procedure is developed and the asymptotic properties of the resulting estimates are established. Also the proposed approach is evaluated by simulation studies and applied to the data arising from a skin cancer chemoprevention trial.  相似文献

This study is to empirically testify that corporate elitism is an antecedent to groupthink, which prevents organizational empathy from working effectively in crises. The current study is expected to expand the boundary of crisis management literature into a company’s crisis-preparedness before a crisis occurs. Recent progress in the study of migration history in Japan has cast new light on the influx of Koreans to Japan just after the end of the Second World War in August 1945. Both the Japanese Government and the Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers called this migration illegal entry or smuggling, and tried to suppress it., One important question remains to be solved about this migration; namely; how was it prohibited? Before the Immigration Control Act (1951) was enshrined, and at a time when Koreans in Japan still held Japanese citizenship, how were the authorities able to regard Korean migration to Japan illegal? How did this migration became a political and social problem? Focusing on the legislation process and performance of the law, this article attempts to answer these questions. Politics, legislation, and social interaction all contributed to making the ethnic and legal category of Korean in postwar Japan.  相似文献

This paper investigates the impact of import competition on job displacement in Korean manufacturing industries. Using a regression model for the period of 1993–2003, the empirical results show that import competition raises the job displacement rate in the Korean manufacturing sector but the elasticity is negligible in its magnitude. Worker characteristics, such as gender, age, job tenure, and education level, proved to be significant in determining the displacement rate. Characteristics of displaced workers in high import-competing industries are also investigated based on the survey data. Workers who lost their jobs in these sectors were slightly older, less educated, and had longer job tenure than the workers in the other groups.  相似文献

Using the data from Program for International Student Assessment, I examine the gap in reading performance between 15‐year‐old students in single‐parent and intact families in 5 Asian countries in comparison to the United States. The ordinary least square regression analyses show negligible disadvantages of students with a single parent in Hong Kong and Korea, once students’ demographic characteristics and socioeconomic background are held constant. Students in single‐parent families in Indonesia and Thailand outperform their peers in intact families. The negative effect of single parenthood remains significant in Japan, even after parent‐child communication is controlled. Interpreting the weak effect of single parenthood in the Asian countries, I consider extended family systems and the relatively high proportion of widowhood among causes of single parenthood.  相似文献

This study identifies the determinants of appointment of executives in quangos. Using data from 85 quangos in Korea over 15 years between 1993 and 2007, we investigate the degree to which various characteristics of organizational actors affect the choice of executives. Three organizational actors include presidents, sponsoring government departments, and the concerned quangos. Although results vary by executive position, the findings of the empirical analysis with multinomial probit and generalized linear mixed models support the idea that the appointment of quango executives is not the result of presidential choice but that of the interactions among the key organizational actors, with different incentives and resources, on the appointment. Compared to former bureaucrats, presidential allies are more likely to be appointed when presidents have more political support from the National Assembly and it is easier for insiders to be promoted as executives from larger and older quangos with clear legal origins.  相似文献

Many research proposals involve collecting multiple sources of information from a set of common samples, with the goal of performing an integrative analysis describing the associations between sources. We propose a method that characterizes the dominant modes of co-variation between the variables in two datasets while simultaneously performing variable selection. Our method relies on a sparse, low rank approximation of a matrix containing pairwise measures of association between the two sets of variables. We show that the proposed method shares a close connection with another group of methods for integrative data analysis – sparse canonical correlation analysis (CCA). Under some assumptions, the proposed method and sparse CCA aim to select the same subsets of variables. We show through simulation that the proposed method can achieve better variable selection accuracies than two state-of-the-art sparse CCA algorithms. Empirically, we demonstrate through the analysis of DNA methylation and gene expression data that the proposed method selects variables that have as high or higher canonical correlation than the variables selected by sparse CCA methods, which is a rather surprising finding given that objective function of the proposed method does not actually maximize the canonical correlation.  相似文献

The paper proposes a joint mixture model to model non-ignorable drop-out in longitudinal cohort studies of mental health outcomes. The model combines a (non)-linear growth curve model for the time-dependent outcomes and a discrete-time survival model for the drop-out with random effects shared by the two sub-models. The mixture part of the model takes into account population heterogeneity by accounting for latent subgroups of the shared effects that may lead to different patterns for the growth and the drop-out tendency. A simulation study shows that the joint mixture model provides greater precision in estimating the average slope and covariance matrix of random effects. We illustrate its benefits with data from a longitudinal cohort study that characterizes depression symptoms over time yet is hindered by non-trivial participant drop-out.KEYWORDS: Latent growth curve, MNAR drop-out, survival analysis, finite mixture model, mental health  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to examine the overall impact of four leadership styles (charismatic, directive, participative, and supportive) in four Confucian Asian countries, China, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, by reviewing recent studies conducted in those countries. By reviewing 38 studies selected from 430 studies published between 2005 and 2016, we identify the impact of the four leadership styles in the four Asian countries. We start with the research question and purpose, and then propose criteria for selecting the relevant recent studies followed by a review of cultural heritage and its influence on leadership in the four Asian countries. We summarize and review the studies and, finally, discuss the theoretical and practical contributions of this study.  相似文献
