The purpose of this paper is to examine the incentive of a player to join a syndicate in an environment of team production and payoff distribution according to Shapley value. We consider an economy in which a single output is produced by an increasing returns to scale production function using two inputs: labor and capital. By assuming that syndicates of factor owners can form, we are interested in their stability, i.e., the willingness of the members of the syndicate to stay in the syndicate. Our analysis, based on the Shapley value, allows us to find a fair imputation of the gains of cooperation and the conditions under which syndicates are stable.  相似文献

Several countries in Latin America are expanding their social‐protection systems. There is an on‐going debate about the trade‐offs implied by these expansions, and by the resulting interactions between contributory and non‐contributory programmes with informality in the labour market. This article analyses the potential incentive effects for formal and informal employment from a set of social‐protection reforms implemented in Uruguay in the 1990s and 2000s. It presents empirical evidence of the expansion of health insurance to formal workers' dependants, and finds that this reform significantly increased formal employment. Finally, it discusses possible alternatives to extend social‐protection systems while maintaining incentives for formal work in Latin America's labour markets.  相似文献

This research examines the Type I error rates obtained when using the mixed model with the Kenward-Roger correction and compares them with the Between–Within and Satterthwaite approaches in split-plot designs. A simulated study was conducted to generate repeated measures data with small samples under normal distribution conditions. The data were obtained via three covariance matrices (unstructured, heterogeneous first-order auto-regressive, and random coefficients), the one with the best fit being selected according to the Akaike criterion. The results of the simulation study showed the Kenward-Roger test to be more robust, particularly when the population covariance matrices were unstructured or heterogeneous first-order auto-regressive. The main contribution of this study lies in showing that the Kenward–Roger method corrects the liberal Type I error rates obtained with the Between–Within and Satterthwaite approaches, especially with positive pairings between group sizes and covariance matrices.  相似文献

Frequent technological innovations and price declines adversely affect sales of extended warranties (EWs) as product replacement upon failure becomes an increasingly attractive alternative. To increase sales and profitability, we propose offering flexible‐duration EWs. These warranties can appeal to customers who are uncertain about how long they will keep the product as well as to customers who are uncertain about the product's reliability. Flexibility may be added to existing services in the form of monthly billing with month‐by‐month commitments or by making existing warranties easier to cancel with pro‐rated refunds. This paper studies flexible warranties from perspectives of both customers and the provider under customers' reliability learning. We present a model of customers' optimal coverage decisions and show that customers' optimal coverage policy has a threshold structure under some mild conditions. We further show that flexible warranties can result in higher profits and higher attach rates in a homogeneous market as well as in a heterogeneous market with multiple segments differing in various dimensions.  相似文献

This article proposes new symmetric and asymmetric distributions applying methods analogous as the ones in Kim (2005 Kim, H.J. (2005). On a class of two-piece skew-normal distributions. Statist.: J. Theoret. Appl. Statist. 39:537553.[Taylor &; Francis Online], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) and Arnold et al. (2009 Arnold, B.C., H.W. Gómez, and H.S. Salinas. (2009). On multiple constraint skewed models. Statist. J. Theoret. Appl. Statist. 43: 279293.[Taylor &; Francis Online], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) to the exponentiated normal distribution studied in Durrans (1992 Durrans, S.R. (1992). Distributions of fractional order statistics in hydrology. Water Resour. Res. 28:16491655.[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]), that we call the power-normal (PN) distribution. The proposed bimodal extension, the main focus of the paper, is called the bimodal power-normal model and is denoted by BPN(α) model, where α is the asymmetry parameter. The authors give some properties including moments and maximum likelihood estimation. Two important features of the model proposed is that its normalizing constant has closed and simple form and that the Fisher information matrix is nonsingular, guaranteeing large sample properties of the maximum likelihood estimators. Finally, simulation studies and real applications reveal that the proposed model can perform well in both situations.  相似文献
