We consider the distributions of Goodman and Kruskal's G, Kendall's tau-b, and correlation coefficients rho and rho-s for sample sizes 10‘10’40 from 2×3 tables. The results are compared with asymptotic theory. It is found that the convergence of G to its asymptotic normal distribution is much slower than the convergence of the other measures to theirs, and that G is more likely to be significantly biased. However, the variances and biases of all four measures come close to their asymptotic values for quite moderate sample sizes.  相似文献

This formulation's solution is developed for known, and (using the Heteroscedastic Method) also for unknown, variance-covariance matrices. The mean absolute deviation (MAD) estimator has recently received a great deal of attention as applied to full-rank linear regression models. This paper provides a necessary and sufficient condition for the MAD estimator to be a non-linear estimator, in which case conditions for the variance of the MAD estimator to be larger or smaller than those for OLS are, in general, unknown. The non-linearity of the MAD estimator is examined for several two-way designs; in particular (1) randomized block design (2) two-way nested design (3) two-way classification with interaction and (4) partially balanced incomplete block design  相似文献

In comparing several regressions E(yij) =αi + βixij i = 1, 2, ..., k, j = 1,2, ..., ni, researchers are generally interested in the following five problems: whether they have (1) equal slope, (2) equal intercept, (3) coincidence, (4) common intersection on X-axis, and (5) common intersection on (X,Y) - plane. Problems (1) - (3) can be put into the framework of the general linear hypothesis and the F-test can be used. However, problems (4) and (5) cannot be put into the general linear hypothesis because they are ratios of parameters. Hence, in this paper we consider the generalized likelihood ratio test for hypothesis testing. An application to an enzyme kinetics problem in Aniline Metabolism is demonstrated  相似文献

Time series analyses of monthly average total ozone measured at 37 stations throughout the world were used to estimate the extent to which the average ozone trend correlates with the depletion curve hypothesized as due to chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). Statistical characteristics of stations in the ensemble were used to help define appropriate model and station selection criteria. The maximum likelihood procedure developed herein estimates the weighted average trend, its. variance, and the intra- and inter-station variance components of the trend. Correlations among trends at different stations are also taken into account. The models were subjected to much checking and criticism. Variations in statistical methodology are used to show that the results are insensitive to details of the model selection criteria. The method does not discriminate well between the hypothesized CFC trend and a linear trend. The trend estimates represent the sum of all long-term global effects. The variance includes all effects that differ from station-to-station. The estimated trend and 2α limits for 14 stations with 20-year records (1958-79) is an ozone increase through 1979 of (1.5+1.0) percent. At the 23 stations with shorter records, the trend is (1.0=1.7) percent. It is concluded that no significant depletion in stratospheric ozone has occurred from any cause through the end of 1979.  相似文献

A confidence interval is geometrically constructed about a parameter estimated by the ratio of bivariate normal random variables. The resulting confidence interval is equivalent to that of Fieller's theorem. The geometric construction shown that such intervals are conservative.
