ABSTRACT

On all continents the enormity of the violence and danger of the times gives rise to multiple new practices of struggle and to conceptual innovations, which seek to serve justice, solidarity, and dignity for all. We explore the possibilities and different worlds intended in the main slogan of the World Social Forum ‘Another world is possible’. During its early years the World Social Forum was characterized by a fair amount of optimism. We know now that most of the high hopes of the movements have not been adequately materialized. The rise of authoritarian leaders and the nexus between capitalism and populism emerging in different parts of the world has created a new context for the attempts to create democratic futures. This collection presents and interrogates a variety of diagnoses of the present and of new strategies for transformative change that are emerging out of the forum process.  相似文献

Kø-divergence’s statistic family for goodness-of-fit, under the null hypothesis, has an asymptotic chi-squared distribution; however, for small samples, the chi-squared approximation in some cases does not well agree with the exact distribution. In this paper, a closer approximation to the exact distribution is obtained by extracting the ø-dependent second order component from the distribution. Moreover, numerical results are presented for moderate sample sizes with moderate number of cells.  相似文献

In testing of hypothesis, the robustness of the tests is an important concern. Generally, the maximum likelihood-based tests are most efficient under standard regularity conditions, but they are highly non-robust even under small deviations from the assumed conditions. In this paper, we have proposed generalized Wald-type tests based on minimum density power divergence estimators for parametric hypotheses. This method avoids the use of nonparametric density estimation and the bandwidth selection. The trade-off between efficiency and robustness is controlled by a tuning parameter β. The asymptotic distributions of the test statistics are chi-square with appropriate degrees of freedom. The performance of the proposed tests is explored through simulations and real data analysis.  相似文献

We define a new family of influence measures based on the divergence measures, in the multivariate general linear model. Influence measures are obtained by quantifying the divergence between the sample distribution of an estimate obtained with all the observations and the sample distribution of the same estimate obtained without any observation. This approach is applied to best linear unbiased estimates of estimable functions. Therefore, these diagnostics can be applied to every statistical multivariate technique that can be formulated like this kind of model. Some examples are considered to clarify the applicability of the introduced diagnostics.  相似文献

In this paper we introduce and study two new families of statistics for the problem of testing linear combinations of the parameters in logistic regression models. These families are based on the phi-divergence measures. One of them includes the classical likelihood ratio statistic and the other the classical Pearson's statistic for this problem. It is interesting to note that the vector of unknown parameters, in the two new families of phi-divergence statistics considered in this paper, is estimated using the minimum phi-divergence estimator instead of the maximum likelihood estimator. Minimum phi-divergence estimators are a natural extension of the maximum likelihood estimator.  相似文献

Divergence measures play an important role in statistical theory, especially in large sample theories of estimation and testing. The underlying reason is that they are indices of statistical distance between probability distributions P and Q; the smaller these indices are the harder it is to discriminate between P and Q. Many divergence measures have been proposed since the publication of the paper of Kullback and Leibler (1951). Renyi (1961) gave the first generalization of Kullback-Leibler divergence, Jeffreys (1946) defined the J-divergences, Burbea and Rao (1982) introduced the R-divergences, Sharma and Mittal (1977) the (r,s)-divergences, Csiszar (1967) the ϕ-divergences, Taneja (1989) the generalized J-divergences and the generalized R-divergences and so on. In order to do a unified study of their statistical properties, here we propose a generalized divergence, called (h,ϕ)-divergence, which include as particular cases the above mentioned divergence measures. Under different assumptions, it is shown that the asymptotic distributions of the (h,ϕ)-divergence statistics are either normal or chi square. The chi square and the likelihood ratio test statistics are particular cases of the (h,ϕ)-divergence test statistics considered. From the previous results, asymptotic distributions of entropy statistics are derived too. Applications to testing statistical hypothesis in multinomial populations are given. The Pitman and Bahadur efficiencies of tests of goodness of fit and independence based on these statistics are obtained. To finish, apendices with the asymptotic variances of many well known divergence and entropy statistics are presented. The research in this paper was supported in part by DGICYT Grants N. This paper deals with testing equality of variances of observations in the different treatment groups assuming treatment effects are fixed. We study the distribution of a test statistic which is known to perform comparably well with other statistics for the same purpose under normality. The statistic we consider is based on Shannon’s entropy for a distribution function. We will derive the asymptotic expansion for the distribution of the test statistic based on Shannon’s entropy under nonnormality and numerically examine its performance in comparison with the modified likelihood ratio criteria for normal and some nonnormal populations.   相似文献
