There are theories on brain functionality that can only be tested in very large models. In this work, a simulation model appropriate
for working with large number of neurons was developed, and Information Theory measuring tools were designed to monitor the
flow of information in such large networks. The model’s simulator can handle up to one million neurons in its current implementation
by using a discretized version of the Lapicque integrate and fire neuron instead of interacting differential equations. A modular
structure facilitates the setting of parameters of the neurons, networks, time and most importantly, architectural changes.
Applications of this research are demonstrated by testing architectures in terms of mutual information. We present some preliminary
architectural results showing that adding a virtual analogue to white matter called “jumps” to a simple representation of
cortex results in: (1) an increase in the rate of mutual information flow, corresponding to the “bias” or “priming” hypothesis;
thereby giving a possible explanation of the high speed response to stimuli in complex networks. (2) An increase in the stability
of response of the network; i.e. a system with “jumps” is a more reliable machine. This also has an effect on the potential

In the present paper, we propose nonparametric estimators for the Renyi’s information measure for the residual lifetime distribution based on complete and censored data. This measure plays important roles in reliability and survival analysis in connection with modeling and analysis of life time data. Asymptotic properties of the estimators are established under suitable regularity conditions. Monte-Carlo simulation studies are carried out to compare the performance of the estimators using the mean-squared error. The methods are illustrated using real data sets. 相似文献

The current study examined whether characteristics of adolescents (i.e., externalizing problems) and their environments (i.e., social support, adverse childhood experiences) relate to academic goal setting, appraisals, and outcomes. Adolescents (n = 99; 87% Black/African American) 13–16 years old completed baseline interviews, and 80% also completed follow‐up interviews. Adolescents with more externalizing problems set fewer academic goals, and youth with social networks characterized by greater support (and less strain) appraised their academic goals as more supported and achievable. Adolescents’ appraisals of their academic goals, but not how many academic goals they had, predicted grades at follow‐up. Increasing social support (and reducing social strain) may foster adolescents’ positive appraisals of their academic goals, which may promote academic achievement. 相似文献

Procurement is an important function in any manufacturing organization and it also has strategic business value attached to it. Hence, any improvements in the process would result in tremendous benefits. E-Procurement exploits the Internet and agent technologies to conduct procurement-related processes. In this paper, we design and develop a software agent-based framework for a typical e-Procurement process by decomposing it into three business processes: e-Negotiations, reverse auctions and e-Settlement. The artefacts of the system for each of the three business processes have been designed and developed using Unified Modeling Language (UML). In this study we investigated whether the following factors influenced married partners' reactions to spousal support: type of support (directive vs. nondirective); individual differences (gender, depressive symptoms); and dimension along which support was evaluated (level of helpfulness vs. valence of emotional impact). Nondirective support was consistently rated more favorably on the dimension of partner's impact than on the dimension of partner's helpfulness, and this effect was exaggerated for those self-reporting a high level of depressive symptoms. Nonetheless, directive support was provided more frequently than was nondirective support in this sample. Gender differences and complications introduced by partner dysphoria suggest some situations in which directive support may be particularly difficult to provide effectively. This work focuses on the effects of dominant concepts of parenthood and gender on gay men who became parents through surrogacy. Based on the analysis of 39 in-depth, semistructured interviews with gay fathers, we show that gay fathers' parenting experiences are shaped by the heteronormative discourse on parenthood, yet they resist its gendered attributes. Gay parenthood is revealed as confronting the social concepts on parenthood, in particular on motherhood, and their socio-political meanings. The tension between the social concepts and the participants' perceptionsy leads them to confront their social environment and to construct alternative discourse to the social discourse of parenthood and gender, suggesting that gay parenthood subverts under existing concepts of parenthood, gender and their meanings within the state. 相似文献

Alcohol dependent patients (ADs) are known to encounter severe interpersonal problems. Nonverbal communication skills are important for the development of healthy relationships. The present study aimed to explore emotional facial expression (EFE) recognition and posed and spontaneous EFE expressivity in male ADs divided into two groups according to Cloninger’s typology and the impact of their interpersonal relationship quality on the potential nonverbal deficits. Twenty type I ADs, twenty-one type II ADs, and twenty control participants took part in an EFE recognition task and an EFE expressivity task that considered personal emotional events (spontaneous expressivity) and EFE in response to a photo or word cue (posed expressivity). Coding was based on judges’ ratings of participants’ emotional facial expressions. Participants additionally completed a questionnaire on interpersonal relationship quality. No difference between the three groups emerged in the EFE recognition task. Type II ADs showed heightened deficits compared with type I ADs in EFE expressivity: Judges perceived less accurate posed EFE in response to a cue word and less intense and positive spontaneous EFE in type II ADs compared to control participants. In addition, type II ADs reported more relationship difficulties compared to both type I ADs and control participants. These interpersonal relationship difficulties were related to some of the EFE expressivity deficits of AD-IIs.
