The marginal structural Cox model (MSCM) estimates can be highly sensitive to weight-model misspecification. We assess the performance of various popular statistical learners, such as LASSO, support vector machines, CART, bagged CART, and boosted CART, in estimating MSCM weights. When weight-models are misspecified, we find that the weights computed from boosted CART generally lead to less MSE and better coverage for the MSCM estimates. This study is motivated by the investigation of the impact of beta-interferon treatment on disability progression in subjects with multiple sclerosis from British Columbia, Canada (1995–2008).  相似文献

Generalized Rayleigh (GR) and Weibull (WE) distributions are used quite effectively for analysing skewed lifetime data. In this paper, we consider the problem of selecting either GR or WE distribution as a more appropriate fitting model for a given data set. We use the ratio of maximized likelihoods (RML) for discriminating between the two distributions. The asymptotic and simulated distributions of the logarithm of the RML are applied to determine the probability of correctly selecting between these two families of distributions. It is examined numerically that the asymptotic results work quite well even for small sample sizes. A real data set involving the annual rainfall recorded at Los Angeles Civic Center during 25 years is analysed to illustrate the procedures developed here.  相似文献

Ranked set sampling is a cost efficient sampling technique when actually measuring sampling units is difficult but ranking them is relatively easy. For a family of symmetric location-scale distributions with known location parameter, we consider a best linear unbiased estimator for the scale parameter. Instead of using original ranked set samples, we propose to use the absolute deviations of the ranked set samples from the location parameter. We demonstrate that this new estimator has smaller variance than the best linear unbiased estimator using original ranked set samples. Optimal allocation in the absolute value of ranked set samples is also discussed for the estimation of the scale parameter when the location parameter is known. Finally, we perform some sensitivity analyses for this new estimator when the location parameter is unknown but estimated using ranked set samples and when the ranking of sampling units is imperfect.  相似文献

If at least one out of two serial machines that produce a specific product in manufacturing environments malfunctions, there will be non conforming items produced. Determining the optimal time of the machines' maintenance is the one of major concerns. While a convenient common practice for this kind of problem is to fit a single probability distribution to the combined defect data, it does not adequately capture the fact that there are two different underlying causes of failures. A better approach is to view the defects as arising from a mixture population: one due to the first machine failures and the other due to the second one. In this article, a mixture model along with both Bayesian inference and stochastic dynamic programming approaches are used to find the multi-stage optimal replacement strategy. Using the posterior probability of the machines to be in state λ1, λ2 (the failure rates of defective items produced by machine 1 and 2, respectively), we first formulate the problem as a stochastic dynamic programming model. Then, we derive some properties for the optimal value of the objective function and propose a solution algorithm. At the end, the application of the proposed methodology is demonstrated by a numerical example and an error analysis is performed to evaluate the performances of the proposed procedure. The results of this analysis show that the proposed method performs satisfactorily when a different number of observations on the times between productions of defective products is available.  相似文献

We propose a randomized minima–maxima nomination (RMMN) sampling design for use in finite populations. We derive the first- and second-order inclusion probabilities for both with and without replacement variations of the design. The inclusion probabilities for the without replacement variation are derived using a non-homogeneous Markov process. The design is simple to implement and results in simple and easy to calculate estimators and variances. It generalizes maxima nomination sampling for use in finite populations and includes some other sampling designs as special cases. We provide some optimality results and show that, in the context of finite population sampling, maxima nomination sampling is not generally the optimum design to follow. We also show, through numerical examples and a case study, that the proposed design can result in significant improvements in efficiency compared to simple random sampling without replacement designs for a wide choice of population types. Finally, we describe a bootstrap method for choosing values of the design parameters.  相似文献
