These experiments are concerned with individual behavior under risk and under uncertainty. By exploiting the isolation effect the experiments were able to offer to 134 subjects the possibility of actually gaining or losing an important sum of money.The experimental data show that under risk as well as under complete ignorance the subjects' attitudes towards prospects of gains and towards prospects of losses are totally unrelated.The data also show that when facing prospects of gains, the subjects generally take the exact probabilities of the events into account, whereas, when facing prospects of losses many of then have only recourse to coarser categories of plausibility, or even no longer use their information at all. 相似文献

Starting from perspectives on functioning and wellbeing, the aim of the present study was to investigate positive and negative affect, self-perceived life satisfaction and happiness in a group of 74 Palestinian children exposed to political violence. We hypothesized that the children in our sample would display generally satisfactory wellbeing and good functioning in terms of positive affect, life satisfaction and happiness, despite their negative life conditions. Both quantitative and qualitative analysis of the dimensions of participants' wellbeing was carried out. In particular, we explored the ecological dimensions affecting the wellbeing of Palestinian children through content analysis of narratives produced by the group of participants. Positive emotions were found to contribute to wellbeing and life satisfaction in children, acting as protective factors in dealing with daily violence. The children displayed a range of personal resources facilitated above all by the functioning community structure supporting them. Implications for clinical intervention are discussed. 相似文献

The skew normal distribution family is an attractive distribution family due to its mathematical tractability and inclusion of the normal distribution as the special case. It has wide applications in many applied fields such as finance, economics, and medical research. Such a distribution family has been studied extensively since it was introduced by Azzalini in 1985 for the first time. Yet, few work has been done on the study of change point problem related to this distribution family. In this article, we propose the likelihood ratio test (LRT) to detect changes in the parameters of the skew normal distribution associated with some asymptotic results of the test statistic. Simulations have been conducted under different scenarios to investigate the performance of the proposed method. Comparisons to some other existing method indicate the comparable power of the method in detecting changes in parameters of the skew normal distribution model. Applications on two real data: Brazilian and Tanzanian stock returns illustrate the detection procedure. 相似文献

Moving Extremes Ranked Set Sampling (MERSS) is a useful modification of Ranked Set Sampling (RSS). Unlike RSS, MERSS allows
for an increase of set size without introducing too much ranking error. The method is considered parametrically under exponential
distribution. Maximum likelihood estimator (MLE), and a modified MLE are considered and their properties are studied. The
method is studied under both perfect and imperfect ranking (with error in ranking). It appears that these estimators can be

This paper reviews the strategic decision‐making process literature with respect to the synoptic formalism/political incrementalism debate. Procedural rationality is chosen as a representative of the synoptic formalism perspective; and both intuitive synthesis and political behaviour are employed as representatives of the political‐incrementalism perspective. In this paper, the author discusses the theoretical underpinnings of these three process dimensions, as well as the key research efforts gathered together under each perspective. In conducting this review, a number of areas have been identified which could profitably be examined further, and a number of implications for managers will be highlighted and discussed. 相似文献

This review presents the physical performance outcomes of randomised trials investigating exercise programmes that included
balance exercise for older people with dementia. A systematic literature search through five computerised bibliographic databases
until February 2009 was carried out. Of 1,038 potentially relevant published articles, only seven met the inclusion criteria
and were extracted. Findings from the review for a total of 632 participants showed that almost all of the included studies
addressed exercise or physical activities as the main intervention; however, only two of the studies focused on balance exercise.
The effect size values varied from no effect (0.00) to a large effect (3.29) of the interventions for a range of physical
performance outcome measures. Findings also suggest that it is feasible to conduct exercise programmes with older people with
dementia. However, further studies with more specific exercise designed to improve balance performance in order to prevent
falls are required for older people with dementia. 相似文献

Skew normal distribution is an alternative distribution to the normal distribution to accommodate asymmetry. Since then extensive studies have been done on applying Azzalini’s skewness mechanism to other well-known distributions, such as skew-t distribution, which is more flexible and can better accommodate long tailed data than the skew normal one. The Kumaraswamy generalized distribution (Kw ? F) is another new class of distribution which is capable of fitting skewed data that can not be fitted well by existing distributions. Such a distribution has been widely studied and various versions of generalization of this distribution family have been introduced. In this article, we introduce a new generalization of the skew-t distribution based on the Kumaraswamy generalized distribution. The new class of distribution, which we call the Kumaraswamy skew-t (KwST) has the ability of fitting skewed, long, and heavy-tailed data and is more flexible than the skew-t distribution as it contains the skew-t distribution as a special case. Related properties of this distribution family such as mathematical properties, moments, and order statistics are discussed. The proposed distribution is applied to a real dataset to illustrate the estimation procedure. 相似文献

An identification procedure for multivariate autoregressive moving average (ARMA) echelon-form models is proposed. It is based on the study of the linear dependence between rows of the Hankel matrix of serial correlations. To that end, we define a statistical test for checking the linear dependence between vectors of serial correlations. It is shown that the test statistic t?n considered is distributed asymptotically as a finite linear combination of independent chi-square random variables with one degree of freedom under the null hypothesis, whereas under the alternative hypothesis, t?N/N converges in probability to a positive constant. These results allow us, in particular, to compute the asymptotic probability of making a specification error with the proposed procedure. Links to other methods based on the application of canonical analysis are discussed. A simulation experiment was done in order to study the performance of the procedure. It is seen that the graphical representation of t?N, as a function of N, can be very useful in identifying the dynamic structure of ARMA models. Furthermore, for the model considered, the proposed identification procedure performs very well for series of 100 observations or more and reasonably well with short series of 50 observations. 相似文献

This article is an attempt to generalize some of the recent papers on randomized response techniques by using the negative binomial distribution of order k to randomize the responses in the randomization design where respondents can report outcome of one of two binary devices depending upon their actual status. The relative efficiency results are observed to be better than those of many recent and relevant randomized response techniques. The results are also better than those of the base line model used in this study, providing the sensitive attribute is rare. An extra advantage of the proposed technique is that it does not require any additional sampling and administrative cost. 相似文献
