This paper considers regression analysis of multivariate panel count data with the focus on variable selection and estimation of significant covariate effects. For the problem, we adopt the penalized estimating equation approach with a focus on the use of the seamless‐$L_0$0074-906d-4cc7-8668-c01cee4aa092/tex2gif-ueqn-2.gif"> penalty. The proposed approach selects variables and estimates regression coefficients simultaneously and the asymptotic properties of the resulting estimates are established. The procedure can be easily carried out with the Newton–Raphson algorithm and is evaluated by simulation studies. Also it is applied to a motivating data set arising from a skin cancer study. Abstract

The adoption of control charts can be traced to the classic text by Shewhart (1931 Shewhart, W. A. 1931. Economic control of quality of manufactured product. London: Macmillan. ISBN: 1614278115.0;[Google Scholar]) and championed by many writers since then, including Deming (1982 Deming, W. E. 1982. Out of the crisis: Quality, productivity and competitive position. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press. ISBN: 0521305535.0;[Google Scholar]). Numerous other texts and publications stress the continuing importance of this area. While tables of key Shewhart control chart parameters are extremely useful they are easily lost or mislaid and can sometimes be difficult to interpret. This paper studies risk attitudes using a large representative survey and a complementary experiment conducted with a representative subject pool in subjects' homes. Using a question asking people about their willingness to take risks “in general”, we find that gender, age, height, and parental background have an economically significant impact on willingness to take risks. The experiment confirms the behavioral validity of this measure, using paid lottery choices. Turning to other questions about risk attitudes in specific contexts, we find similar results on the determinants of risk attitudes, and also shed light on the deeper question of stability of risk attitudes across contexts. We conduct a horse race of the ability of different measures to explain risky behaviors such as holdings stocks, occupational choice, and smoking. The question about risk taking in general generates the best all‐round predictor of risky behavior.  相似文献

The penalized logistic regression is a useful tool for classifying samples and feature selection. Although the methodology has been widely used in various fields of research, their performance takes a sudden turn for the worst in the presence of outlier, since the logistic regression is based on the maximum log-likelihood method which is sensitive to outliers. It implies that we cannot accurately classify samples and find important factors having crucial information for classification. To overcome the problem, we propose a robust penalized logistic regression based on a weighted likelihood methodology. We also derive an information criterion for choosing the tuning parameters, which is a vital matter in robust penalized logistic regression modelling in line with generalized information criteria. We demonstrate through Monte Carlo simulations and real-world example that the proposed robust modelling strategies perform well for sparse logistic regression modelling even in the presence of outliers.  相似文献

We propose a test for equality of two means when data are functions and obtain the asymptotic properties of the test statistic as data dimension increases with the sample size. We also derive the asymptotic power of the test under some local alternatives and show that the test statistic is root-n consistent. A simulation study is conducted to evaluate the performance of the test numerically and to compare the proposed test with other existing four popular tests.  相似文献

This article presents a provocative perspective on creativity with two controversial assertions. First, it challenges the conventional view of the creator as an innovative person, by promoting the notion of the dogmatic creator. Second, it argues that 01612787283343v/xxlarge8220.gif" alt="ldquo" align="MIDDLE" BORDER="0">nice01612787283343v/xxlarge8221.gif" alt="rdquo" align="MIDDLE" BORDER="0"> people are not creative, and creative people are not 01612787283343v/xxlarge8220.gif" alt="ldquo" align="MIDDLE" BORDER="0">nice.01612787283343v/xxlarge8221.gif" alt="rdquo" align="MIDDLE" BORDER="0"> An integrative review of the empirical literature on culture, creativity, and conflict ensues. In the process, four sets of hypotheses are developed which are embedded in two theoretical models of behavior. In Theoretical Model A, it is postulated that cultural individualism-collectivism has a positive causal impact on independent self-construal (Hypothesis 1A). In turn, independent self-construal is posited to have a positive causal impact on positive perception of conflict (Hypothesis 2A), confrontational conflict style (Hypothesis 3A), and creative behavior (Hypothesis 4A). In Theoretical Model B, it is postulated that cultural individualism-collectivism has a negative causal impact on interdependent self-construal (Hypothesis 1B). In turn, interdependent self-construal was postulated to have a positive causal impact on negative perception of conflict (Hypothesis 2B), non-confrontational conflict style (Hypothesis 3B), and conforming behavior (Hypothesis 4B). One-hundred-eighty-six university students in Singapore and 158 students in Australia responded to a survey, which consisted of various scales tapping the constructs in these two theoretical models of behavior. SEM analyses using LISREL 8.0 provided empirical support for both models of behavior. Based on these findings, several points are raised. First, creativity should not be perceived in a naïve manner. Second, there is an urgent need to assist parents, teachers, and employers to deal with creative individuals. Finally, since creativity is a cultural phenomenon, the cultural context must be made amenable for this type of behavior.  相似文献
