The humanistic nature of social studies education ensures that its related curriculum exists in a consistently contested terrain among educators, governing bodies, and the community at large. As our ability to investigate and interact with societies widens in scope and complexity, so too does the curriculum debate. To add to the complexity, social studies classes must now navigate through an increasingly technological world where some origins of knowledge are becoming more and more accessible, while others are becoming more and more silenced. Mark Baildon and James S. Damico's recent book Social Studies As New Literacies in a Global Society (2011) discusses potential answers to the ongoing questions of how to teach social studies in a twenty-first-century classroom. Although the book identifies the need for students to question sources of knowledge and the construction of knowledge itself, it falls short in the actual naming and deconstructing of the hegemonic frameworks of power that are prevalent within the sources and curriculum approaches that the students come into contact with. 相似文献

ABSTRACT This paper reports relationships among communities, families, and Spanish-speaking children's language and literacy development in kindergarten and grade 1. Findings from a study of 35 communities show that communities with greater concentrations of Latinos are less likely to have printed materials, and available materials are more likely to be in Spanish. Communities with higher income and education levels have more literacy materials in English. Contrary to predictions, there are few associations among community literacy resources, frequency of children's home reading activities, and children's literacy achievement. This lack of association is due to within-community variation in home literacy practices and to schools' impact on home literacy. However, there are associations among community and family language characteristics and child literacy outcomes in Spanish and English, suggesting that at least in the early stages of literacy development, communities' influence on Spanish-speaking children's literacy development is through language-learning opportunities rather than literacy-learning opportunities per se. 相似文献

电视作为我国普及率极高的信息传播媒介,对儿童的发展具有重要的影响。而电视节目中的暴力、色情、犯罪等负面信息给儿童带来的消极影响也引起了广大家长、学者和政府的担忧。家长虽然是儿童电视素养教育的最重要主体,但CHNS数据结果表明,60%的父母并不经常陪儿童一起看电视,超过一半的父母对电视节目没有限制,90%的父母没有对子女看电视进行价值教育和真实教育。序次logistic模型分析结果表明,父母的教育程度、职业类型等因素能够显著影响儿童电视素养教育。 相似文献

This study examined recognition of Alzheimer’s disease symptoms among Korean Americans (KAs) and assessed psychometric properties of the Alzheimer’s Disease Symptom Recognition Scale (ADSRS). A cross-sectional survey collected data from 209 KAs, using a self-administered questionnaire. Results show that KAs recognized symptoms related to memory and cognitive functioning well, but had very limited recognition of neuropsychiatric symptoms. Psychometric analysis of ADSRS identified 4 factors in their symptom recognition. Findings suggest a need to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s symptoms over the course of the disease. Assessment using ADSRS can be incorporated in communication in the practice context and public outreach. 相似文献

Healthy Marriage programs in the United States aim to promote marriage primarily among low‐income individuals. There is little research assessing whether children fare better when their never‐married mothers get married. The present study uses the Early Childhood Longitudinal Survey–Birth Cohort to test the hypothesis that children have higher literacy scores when their mothers who had never married when the children were 9 months old had married when the children were 48 months old (N = 2,800). A small positive effect was found, but only when marriage was compared with cohabitation. The association between marriage and literacy is partially explained by mothers' increased household income. The children of mothers who were single noncohabitants or married and then divorced or separated were also doing better with respect to literacy than children of cohabiting mothers. Future research is needed to better understand how cohabitation is associated with negative effects on children's literacy. 相似文献

数字知识经济作为数字经济的重要组成部分,随着各类互联网平台的发展得到了飞速发展,研究数字知识经济核算问题是完成我国数字经济核算的重要一环。本文在对数字知识经济内涵、范围与分类研究的基础上,对数字知识经济的生产模式、收益模式以及与平台的合作模式进行了归纳;进而根据平台所起的作用,分别以数字知识平台与生产者作为核算主体,详细研究各种模式下的总产出与中间消耗,确定生产法增加值核算方案。根据生产者是个人还是企业、平台是否参与生产等因素,详细讨论各种情况下劳动报酬、营业盈余、混合收入、生产税净额、固定资本消耗的核算内容,确定收入法增加值的核算方案;并探究支出法GDP核算中数字知识经济的核算项目。以“得到”这一典型企业为例,采用生产法和收入法核算了其2020年1月至6月的增加值,并分析两种方法存在差异的原因和适用性,为有关部门进行数字知识经济增加值的核算提供参考依据。 相似文献
