Installing Circuit Breakers: Mechanisms to Avoid Sexual Harassment in the Workplace

This paper suggests that a synergy is both possible and necessary between two traditionally distinct management approaches: the Weberian approach, which contends that the bureaucratic structure of a company affects the daily activities of employees, and the human relations model, which holds that small group leadership dynamics at the divisional/department level affects daily activities of employees. The tendency within organizations is to promote one approach over the other. A resolution to the debate is suggested in applying mechanisms to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace. Indeed, the courts have inadvertently pointed the way: the reasonable woman standard urges a human relations approach to resolving the problem of sexual harassment, placing the burden of solving the problem on supervisor personnel and their ability to direct their employee's behavior; the hostile environment issues promotes a Weberian structural solution, requiring sound policy be developed at the executive level to ensure workplace compliance to appropriate normative behavior. A one-sided approach is doomed to failure, which may explain why the issue continues to rage in the corporate sphere.     

谈谈对几个理论问题的理解

我们要科学理解党的百年奋斗历史主题与社会主义现代化问题。中国式现代化,不是一般的现代化,而是中国特色社会主义的现代化,是中国共产党领导的社会主义现代化。三项基本经济制度从其三个领域来说是并列的,但就其关系来说又不是等同的。其中,生产资料所有制是生产关系的核心,决定了我国社会发展的方向和性质。人类命运共同体是坚持和发展中国特色社会主义、实现中华民族伟大复兴的基本方略,是我国外交政策的总目标,是建设新型国际关系的新思路,要从时代之问出发准确阐述人类命运共同体。中国共产党的领导是中国特色社会主义最本质特征,如果没有以马克思主义为指导的共产党的领导,我国社会主义的其他领域的本质特征,如以公有制为主体、以马克思主义为指导的根本制度、人民民主专政的政治制度等,都将不复存在。     

变革型领导、交易型领导、信任和工作绩效的关系——以基层公务员为例

基于变革型领导理论、交易型领导理论和社会交换理论,探讨了中国背景下基层公务员变革型领导行为和交易型领导行为对工作绩效的差异及其影响机制,即变革型领导和交易型领导是否通过信任的中介作用对领导效能产生影响。通过对176名基层公务员的变革型领导、交易型领导、信任以及工作绩效之间的关系进行问卷调查,并采用层次回归分析的方法进行分析,研究结果如下：（1）变革型领导和交易型领导分别对工作绩效有显著的影响。（2）变革型领导没有比交易型领导表现出更好的预测作用。（3）信任在变革型领导和工作绩效之间起到部分中介作用,但在交易型领导和工作绩效之间没有起到中介作用。

通过对我国客车产业的现状以及竞争环境的分析,总结产业中存在的问题和不足,同时归纳客车生产企业已具备的优势和面临的机遇,由此提出发展战略制订的指导原则,指出实现成本领先和差异化两种基本竞争战略的思路和途径。     

当代西方主流教育领导理论的发展及述评

对当代西方教育领导理论的发展进行梳理和回顾,对其发展历史及其研究框架进行了分析。教育领导理论始终是伴随着管理科学的发展,不断借鉴和吸取企业领导理论的养料来丰富完善自身的发展。教育领导理论发展迅速,理论种类繁多,但研究中依然存在着某些“盲点”。从目前的研究结果看,教育领导理论对学习效果与改进学校管理的贡献很少得到验证。我国在此领域的研究仍显稚嫩,尚有很多空白,特别是高等教育领域。     

Simultaneous semi-sequential testing of dual alternatives for pattern recognition

In this paper, we propose a new nonparametric simultaneous test for dual alternatives. Simultaneous tests for dual alternatives are used for pattern detection of arsenic contamination level in ground water. We consider two possible patterns, namely, monotone shift and an umbrella-type location alternative, as the dual alternatives. Pattern recognition problems of this nature are addressed in Bandyopadhyay et al. [5], stretching the idea of multiple hypotheses tests as in Benjamini and Hochberg [6]. In the present context, we develop an alternative approach based on contrasts that helps us to detect three underlying pattern much more efficiently. We illustrate the new methodology through a motivating example related to highly sensitive issue of arsenic contamination in ground water. We provide some Monte-Carlo studies related to the proposed technique and give a comparative study between different detection procedures. We also obtain some related asymptotic results.     

Toward Defining the Causal Role of Consciousness: Using Models of Memory and Moral Judgment from Cognitive Neuroscience to Expand the Sociological Dual‐Process Model

What role does “discursive consciousness” play in decision‐making? How does it interact with “practical consciousness?” These two questions constitute two important gaps in strong practice theory that extend from Pierre Bourdieu's habitus to Stephen Vaisey's sociological dual‐process model and beyond. The goal of this paper is to provide an empirical framework that expands the sociological dual‐process model in order to fill these gaps using models from cognitive neuroscience. In particular, I use models of memory and moral judgment that highlight the importance of executive functions and semantic memory. I outline each model as it pertains to the aforementioned gaps in strong practice theory. I then use the models from cognitive neuroscience to create an expanded dual‐process model that addresses how and when conscious mental systems override and interact with subconscious mental systems in the use of cultural ends for decision‐making. Finally, using this expanded model I address the sociological debate over the use of interview and survey data. My analysis reveals that surveys and interviews both elicit information encoded in declarative memory and differ primarily in the process of information retrieval that is required of respondents.

作为美国第28任总统,伍德罗·威尔逊提出了带有理想主义色彩的“十四点纲领”,最后一条是成立一个普遍性的国际联合组织,第一次把集体安全思想引入到现实。美国是国际联盟最初倡导者,但却没有加入这一国际组织,其背后的国内政治、国家文化和领袖性格在决策过程中的影响值得思考。
