The Economic Efficiency of Sampling Size: The Case of Beef Trim

The economically optimal sample size in a food safety test balances the marginal costs and marginal benefits of increasing the sample size. We provide a method for selecting the sample size when testing beef trim for Escherichia coli O157:H7 that equates the averted costs of recalls and health damages from contaminated meats sold to consumers with the increased costs of testing while allowing for uncertainty about the underlying prevalence rates of contamination. Using simulations, we show that, in most cases, the optimal sample size is larger than the current sample size of 60 and, in some cases, it exceeds 120. Moreover, lots with a lower prevalence rate have a higher expected damage because contamination is more difficult to detect. Our simulations indicate that these lots have a higher optimal sampling rate.

The Dutch people and the euro: A structural equations analysis relating national identity and economic expectations to attitude towards the euro

National identity, macro and micro economic expectations affect the attitude toward the euro. In a study in The Netherlands, data were collected and relationships between the latent concepts were modelled with LISREL. In the best fitting model, national identity has a direct and an indirect effect on attitude, respectively, an unstructured and a structured effect. The indirect effect is mediated by macro and micro expectations. Macro expectations also have a direct and an indirect effect. The indirect effect is mediated by micro expectations. On one hand, macro expectations form a strong link between national identity and attitude. On the other hand, macro expectations have a strong direct effect on attitudes. The euro is mainly perceived and evaluated in a macro-economic perspective.PsycINFO classification: 2229; 3920

Multivariate inverse Gaussian distribution as a limit of multivariate waiting time distributions

Multivariate inverse Gaussian distribution proposed by Minami [2003. A multivariate extension of inverse Gaussian distribution derived from inverse relationship. Commun. Statist. Theory Methods 32(12), 2285–2304] was derived through multivariate inverse relationship with multivariate Gaussian distributions and characterized as the distribution of the location at a certain stopping time of a multivariate Brownian motion. In this paper, we show that the multivariate inverse Gaussian distribution is also a limiting distribution of multivariate Lagrange distributions, which is a family of waiting time distributions, under certain conditions.     

高等教育大众化背景下体育教育专业学生就业问题及发展对策研究

高等教育大众化使体育教育专业毕业生就业形式更加严峻,毕业生在就业问题上对自身定位不够、存在地区差异以及自身素养存在不足,同时受学历、毕业学校知名度、社会关系以及社会需求等因素的影响。解决好就业的问题应该从转变就业观念、提高就业竞争力、提高体育专业大学生的综合素质、调整专业课程结构设置、改革课程体系、加大高校就业指导工作的力度等方面入手。     

8种血清型禽大肠杆菌的生化反应及药物敏感试验分析

选取具有致病力8种血清（O1、O2、O6、O(35)、O(54)、O(55)、O(78)、O(103)）禽大肠肝菌进行生化反应及药物敏感试验，研究其生化特性及对药物的敏感性。结果表明：8种血清型大肠杆菌生化反应基本一致，所不同的是在卫予醇反应中，（O1、O2、O6、O(35)、O(105)）4种血清型大肠杆菌呈阴性；8种血清型大肠杆菌对了胶卡那霉素、痢特灵、链霉素、卡那霉素、新霉素、红霉素均呈极、高、中、低不同程度敏感，对万古霉素均不敏感；7种（除O6外）血清型大肠杆菌对氯霉素呈极敏感或高敏；6种（除O(35)、O(103)外）血清型大肠肝菌对庆大霉素呈高、中、低度敏感二种（O1、O2、O(54)、O(78)）血清型大肠杆菌对氨苄青霉素呈高度敏感；2种（O1、O2）血清型大肠杆菌对强力霉素、磺胺药、四环素呈中敏或极敏。
