Your position in society matters for how happy you are

This article shows that people's perception of their position in society is strongly correlated with their level of happiness, and thus that differences in happiness levels among countries in different welfare state clusters are influenced by people's perceptions of their relative position in society (subjective position). The study drew on data from the European Social Survey. Two important findings emerged from the analysis. First, an individual's subjective position in society is a more important predictor of happiness than objective measures such as income, education and labour market position. Second, the link between individuals’ perceived position in society and their level of happiness is moderated by the welfare state. In the Nordic countries, people's perceptions of their position in society have less influence on happiness whereas in Eastern European countries we found a strong connection between subjective position and happiness.

Religion and the environmental opinion in 22 countries: a comparative study

The objective is to test if religiosity affects environmental opinion in Europe. Using data from European Social Survey (ESS) 2002/2003, the study answers three questions. At the societal level: Is public opinion about the environment different in political systems with different Christian traditions? Is environmental concern less or higher in the public opinion depending on the degree of secularization in the political systems? At the individual level: Is the environmental opinion of the individual affected by the personal confession of faith, religious involvement, and the dominant religious context? At the societal level, the findings show stronger concern for the environment in Catholic and Eastern Orthodox countries than in Protestant countries. The tendency also shows a weakened concern for the environment in countries with a rather secular population. At the individual level, there are significant positive effects on environmental care from Catholic culture, negative effect from Protestant culture, and no effect from religious involvement.

比较话语的不对称：尼采与道家

关于尼采与道家的比较话语,国内自上个世纪80年代以来长时期从现代精神上比较尼采与老庄思想,突出了双方打破传统、寻求个性解放的要旨。但是与此不同的是,西方从上世纪60-70年代开始,则更多地从后现代视域上探讨尼采与东方思想的接近,目的是为西方现代困局寻找救赎希望。在这个视域中,尼采实际上被看成是一个“反现代”的思想代表,并被作为后结构主义或后现代主义的先驱。笔者以为,要突破这种比较话语的不对称现象．就需要探讨尼采与道家思想深层的共通性。
