The case for ethical propaganda within a democracy: Ivy Lee's successful 1913–1914 railroad rate campaign

This review of Lee's tactics in the 1913–1914 rate campaign and the subsequent case he makes for ethical propaganda presents public relations practitioners and scholars with the opportunity to move beyond the progressive critique of propaganda and ask new questions about how propaganda can ethically contribute to dialogue and resolution within a democracy.

父子沟通是父亲影响子女心理发展的重要途径。通过对60个幼儿家庭中父子沟通情况的调查,描述了父子沟通发生的频率、时机、持续时间、地位等背景特征,同时检验了父亲沟通能力、父子沟通质量与父子沟通满意度之间的关系。结果发现：父子沟通存在地位低、频率低、时间短等特征;父亲的表达主动性能预测关系指向的沟通质量,表达清晰性能预测问题指向的父子沟通质量;问题指向的父子沟通质量能预测沟通满意度。

近代小说的兴起与发展,昭示着一种新的话语权的形成。梁启超创办《新小说》杂志,是他启蒙民众、变革图强的政治需要。《新小说》用浅易的文言甚至白话刊行的小说、戏曲、歌谣等,具有巨大的感染力和影响力,对小说传统观念的改变具有首倡之功,促成小说从＂小道＂变为＂大道＂,对晚清小说走向现代化起着关键作用;同时,《新小说》占领舆论制高点,在中国近代传媒阵地有效开展救亡和启蒙活动发挥了积极作用。     

Incorporating regulatory focus theory in product recall communications to increase compliance with a product recall

Product recall communications with consumers is an important yet under-researched area of crisis management. This study examines whether applying regulatory focus theory in product recall communications can help companies involved in a product recall. This study examines the issue with a product recall message related to laptop computers. We find that creating regulatory fit through the product recall message increases intentions to comply with a product recall request, however future purchase intentions are also adversely impacted. We believe that the benefits of increased compliance greatly outweigh the small decrease in future purchase intentions, and companies should seriously consider incorporating regulatory focus theory in their product recall communications.     

Employee Drug Testing:

The authors examine the limitations of employee drug testing as a method of improving productivity and safety in the workplace. Attempts to modify licit and illicit drug use, including prohibition, are briefly reviewed, and the importance of social setting is underscored. The authors discourage the widespread use of employee drug testing because of problems in interpreting the significance of test results, laboratory errors, and possible civil liberties infringements. They propose that work performance be evaluated as a more reliable indicator of impairment, and they identify behaviors often associated with substance use. Finally, a protocol is recommended for the procurement and management of samples, laboratory standards and certification, and interpretation of test results, when testing is determined to be indispensible.
