A strong trend to move from print to online publication is largely perceived in scientific and nonscientific fields. A growing number of publishers increasingly opt for online publication as an option or a compulsory alternative. From readers’ perspective, this is a highly appreciated facility, but from the author’s, things are different mainly because of excessive article processing charges (APC) that make the open access system sometimes as a hindrance for many authors but a lucrative enterprise for many shareholders, enticing the most traditional and conservative publishers.     

Pre–Post Release Health in US Adult Male Convicts

Abstract

This study sought to determine whether need for healthcare and reported health status among adult men (N?=?1,113) in US Federal prisons (in 12 states) changed from pre-release to 15?months after release by analyzing data collected by the Serious and Violent Offender Reentry Initiative (SVORI). Specifically, the study was guided by three questions: (1) were there changes in treatment for specific diseases; (2) were there changes in health status, need for care, and access to and satisfaction with healthcare; and (3) did various social determinants of health predict any of the health outcomes at 15-month follow-up. The analysis of SVORI data found that men reported lower physical and mental health status and declines in receiving treatment following release, but greater satisfaction with healthcare. Further, analysis found the best predictors of health status as being satisfied with access to health care as well as employment. The greatest declines were in mental health treatment, however those ceasing treatment did not report worse physical health status, mental health scores, housing, employment, or recidivism. Future research is needed to determine the significance of the link between employment, satisfaction with access to health care, and health status among ex-prisoners.

论国家资助科技项目中第三方参与人的知识产权利益配置

随着科技创新重要性的日益凸显以及科技研发专业化分工与合作的不断加强,许多企业、事业单位等主体作为第三方通过联合资助、合作研发或转委托等方式参与到国家各级各类财政资助科技项目中。为完善国家资助科技项目研发与投资行为,必须合理配置和正确维护第三方参与人的知识产权利益。具体而言,要科学恰当地界定第三方的范围及种类、深入具体地分析第三方与项目承担单位之间、不同种类的第三方之间并妥善解决其利益冲突．同时当其权利配置在合同优先的情况下,应进一步建立完备的合同监管制度并提供有效法律救济措施。

学籍管理工作作为现代远程教育管理的一个重要环节,其规范化、科学化是教学管理的重要保障,同时也与学生权益息息相关,所以学籍管理人员应该不断的进行探索与完善,以填补学籍管理在远程开放教育领域的空白。不断提高系统软件功能的开发,推动学籍管理现代化,提升电大学籍管理的内涵建设,确保电大在远程教育中可持续发展,增进各部门之间的沟通协调是保证学籍管理顺畅的有效方式。     

我国零售企业国际市场进入战略研究——基于供应链协同的视角

由于现代市场竞争已步入供应链竞争的时代,因此我国本土零售企业在作出初始国际化战略决策时,应重视与同一条供应链上其他企业、特别是制造企业的战略合作,追求供应链协同的好处和整体竞争优势,进而加快所有参与者的国际化进程。零售企业与制造企业的国际化协同体现在企业国际市场进入战略决策的整个过程,包括国际目标市场选择的协同、制造企业产品定位与零售企业零售业态设计的协同、国际市场进入方式选择的协同以及国际营销组织协同等。     

‘Like waking up in a Franz Kafka novel’: Service users' experiences of the child protection system when domestic violence and acrimonious separations are involved

The challenges that arise in respect of child abuse reports made in the context of domestic violence and/or acrimonious separation have been the subject of recent academic discussion. This paper adds a service user perspective to the debate and reports on the findings from a study conducted in the Republic of Ireland. In addition to the previously established evidence about such cases, it demonstrates the level of powerlessness and frustration experienced by families who found it difficult to have their needs heard or met. It also illustrates the very detrimental emotional impact on children and parents who frequently encountered indifference as well as insensitive and gendered responses from child protection staff. The findings indicate that mainstream statutory child protection services do not have the capacity to deal with these complex cases, and advocates the adoption of alternative approaches. Importantly, the study demonstrates the necessity to pay attention to the views of service users in developing an appropriate response.

European Federation of Statisticians in the Pharmaceutical Industry's position on access to clinical trial data

The European Federation of Statisticians in the Pharmaceutical Industry (EFSPI) believes access to clinical trial data should be implemented in a way that supports good research, avoids misuse of such data, lies within the scope of the original informed consent and fully protects patient confidentiality. In principle, EFSPI supports responsible data sharing. EFSPI acknowledges it is in the interest of patients that their data are handled in a strictly confidential manner to avoid misuse under all possible circumstances. It is also in the interest of the altruistic nature of patients participating in trials that such data will be used for further development of science as much as possible applying good statistical principles. This paper summarises EFSPI's position on access to clinical trial data. The position was developed during the European Medicines Agency (EMA) advisory process and before the draft EMA policy on publication and access to clinical trial data was released for consultation; however, the EFSPI's position remains unchanged following the release of the draft policy. Finally, EFSPI supports a need for further guidance to be provided on important technical aspects relating to re‐analyses and additional analyses of clinical trial data, for example, multiplicity, meta‐analysis, subgroup analyses and publication bias.
