Estimation of signal to noise ratio using mahalanobis distance

In this paper, we propose some alternative estimatiors to that given by C. G. Khatri and C. R. Rao (1985), for estimating Signal to Noise ratio. Using Pitman Nearness, Condition for prefering one estimator over the other is estabilished. It is shown numerically that estimators corresponding to Entropy loss function are better more oftern than those corresponding to Squared Error loss.     

Understanding Ambiguous Loss in the Context of Dementia Care

Abstract

This study examined the experience of ambiguous loss for family members caring for a person with dementia living in a long-term care facility. Data for this study came from in-depth, active interviews conducted with 38 adult daughters and 23 adult sons caring for a parent with dementia living in a long-term care facility. The stories shared by the adult children revealed that ambiguous loss in the dementia context involves a long, on-going process of several phases including anticipatory loss, progressive loss and acknowledged loss. The nature of the ambiguity shifts and the experience changes for families as they journey through the ambiguous loss process. Acceptance and avoidance were the two most common coping strategies used in dealing with acknowledged loss.     

Missing siblings: seeking more adequate social responses

Little is known about the experience of family and friends when a young adult goes missing, less is known about how siblings make sense of the experience. Police assistance to locate the missing person may be sought but there is little recognition of going missing or missingness as a social issue, and there is little or no adequate social response to the needs of those left behind. This paper links knowledge of siblings, loss and grief to an understanding of this phenomenon. It presents the methodology and findings of an exploratory, qualitative study into the experiences of nine adult siblings of long-term missing people in Australia and presents the themes drawn from their accounts. The themes are briefly elaborated using direct quotations from participants in the study and represented in a diagram. The paper seeks to develop greater understanding of the inter-relationship between missingness and other social issues, to give voice to the views of participants and to encourage practitioners to engage more purposefully in work with family and friends affected by this issue. Some implications for social work practice are presented.     

ESTIMATION OF THE PARAMETER OF A POISSON DISTRIBUTION USING A LINEX LOSS FUNCTION

This paper considers estimation of the parameter of a Poisson distribution using Varian's (1975) asymmetric LINEX loss function L (δ) = b{exp(aδ) - aδ - 1}, where δ is the estimation error and b > 0, a 0. It is shown that for a < 0, the sample mean X¯ is admissible whereas for a > 0, X¯ is dominated by c*X¯, where c*= (n/a)log(1+a/n). Practical implications of this result are indicated. More general results, concerning the admissibility of estimators of the form cX¯+ d are also presented.

电磁-温度耦合条件下推力磁轴承涡流损耗分析

针对一类以实心推力盘为主要热源的电磁轴承转子系统，研究了电磁-温度耦合条件下从线圈加电到稳定运行整个过程中的电磁场，给出了电磁场涡流损耗的解析计算方法．通过将实例的计算结果与有限元方法及实验结果对比表明，采用该解析计算方法可简单、快捷及准确地解决系统初步设计时的参数选定问题．     

平行带状线间加孔栅的抗耦合干扰技术研究

针对平行带状线间的耦合问题,比较了平行带状线间不加孔栅和加孔栅的耦合干扰问题,研究了平行带状线间距不同时加不同孔栅结构的抗耦合干扰情况,分析了孔径与反射损耗的关系。通过计算与仿真,得到了一种新型的孔栅结构,有效地抑制了平行带状线间的耦合干扰。     

铁路工程建设水土流失预测研究

随着铁路建设步伐的加快，铁路建设过程中引起的水土流失问题日益受到重视，以包兰线包头至惠农段电气化改造工程为研究对象，分析了沿线水土流失形式，确定了流失量，并对预测结果进行了总结。
