论我国文化多样性的时代特征

改革开放以来,我国的文化格局经历了从单一性向多样性的演变,文化多样性呈现出从形式的多样走向实质性的多样,从地域性到超越地域性,以及日益凸显的意识形态性的时代特征。具体表现为传统文化与现代文化、本土文化与外来文化、主流文化与非主流文化、大众文化与精英文化、先进文化与落后文化等异质文化相互交融的文化多样性格局。在当代中国,无论多样性文化如何发展,它都离不开马克思主义的指导,离不开中国特色社会主义先进文化的引领。     

转基因植物安全评价及其伦理探析

转基因植物的出现是科技发展的必然,但转基因植物的安全问题有待验证,以至于转基因植物引发的伦理争议层出不穷。转基因植物的发展有利于保证粮食安全,缓解世界粮食短缺;减少人工化学品投放,保护生态环境;降低农业生产成本,提高劳动生产率;丰富人类食品的种类,提高食物的营养价值;预防或治疗某些疾病,增强食品卫生预防能力。与此同时,转基因植物还可能引发食物中毒、产生过敏反应、引起抗生特性等食用方面的风险,以及损害物种遗传多样性等环境方面的伦理争议。因此,实现转基因植物安全评价应遵循生命伦理学的尊重原则、不伤害原则、公正原则、效用原则等四大原则,以促进转基因植物的和谐发展。     

思想政治教育方法多样性的根源性分析

“人性”具有层次性,而且是多层次、变化发展的。而思想政治教育归根结底是不同人性的较量和同化,人性是思想政治教育的基础和归宿。因此,思想政治教育必须顺应人性,教育方法必然具有多样性、层次性。     

论环境权的文化解释

生态环境的多样性,形成了文化多样性,因此自然环境的保护与人类文化密切联系,保护文化就是保护环境。应用文化阐释的方法来分析环境权:第一种含义是对自然资源环境的文化功能进行探讨;第二种含义是根据法律文化的操作性定义,对环境权进行分类。这两方面是互相联系的,从不同角度解释了环境权范畴的内涵与外延,揭示了环境权范畴在中国语境中的精神理念和操作性功能。

Religious diversity and social policy: an Australian dilemma

The increase in religious diversity produced by the global movement of people and cultures and the proliferation of internal difference within religious communities raises social policy issues. Consideration of these issues is facilitated by understanding that religious groups intersect with social policy in four basic ways: as objects, sources, critics and implementers of policy. A major issue is the challenge societies face in respecting freedoms of religion and belief on the one hand and providing services to all citizens on the other. Resolving these issues requires an awareness of the religious profile of a society and sensitivity to its religious diversity and to the ways services are delivered. Research into the current status of freedom of religion and belief in Australia is used as a case study to identify issues and potential ways to address them. This research reveals that there is a lack of mechanisms for considering and resolving these issues.     

What kind of country we want for our children: an analysis of media coverage of the 2017 New Zealand General Election

ABSTRACT

This article is the third in a series investigating media reporting of New Zealand elections. Based on content analysis of 510 articles published in the New Zealand Herald, and thematic analysis of a subset of news stories related to young people, the study examines media coverage of the 2017 elections by looking at the topics of news stories, presence of party policies, diversity of sources and references to social groups. Comparing the 2017 results with the results of the Herald’s coverage of 2014 elections, we register a shift towards a stronger presence of policy issues, more female voices in the reports and significantly higher reference to young people. We further investigated the high number of references to young people by conducting qualitative analysis on the subset of articles mentioning young people.     

Creating Connections,Building Community: The Role of Oral History Collections in Documenting and Sharing Campus Diversity

Abstract

The collection and sharing of oral history is a growing area that libraries and archives are using to connect with their communities and document campus diversity. This column discusses opportunities for libraries and archives to include diverse and underrepresented voices in the historical record, highlighting the Wolf Tales project from the North Carolina State University Libraries, which was the topic of a talk by Virginia Ferris at the 2018 North Carolina Serials Conference. This column discusses that presentation and briefly examines oral history projects at several other institutions, providing perspective on the efforts to use oral histories to document campus and community diversity in the profession. Further resources for institutions interested in pursuing or growing oral history programs are also provided.     

How complex is your love? The case of romantic compromises and polyamory

This article highlights a somewhat neglected aspect of love (and of emotions in general): their complexity. We suggest distinguishing between three major related types of emotional complexity: emotional diversity, emotional ambivalence, and emotional behavior. The notion of emotional complexity has far‐reaching implications for understanding emotions and our wellbeing. This is illustrated by examining the notion of emotional complexity in two common yet complex phenomena in the romantic realm: romantic compromises and polyamory.     

From Transitional to Permanent Uncertainty: Employability of Middle‐aged Workers in Hong Kong

Since the 1990s, Hong Kong has experienced increasing economic uncertainty. Middle‐aged workers, who often have little formal education and limited skills, have been the first casualties of economic restructuring. Initially, their unemployment was considered transitional. Limited government‐sponsored retraining programs were expected to improve their employability. Subsequent economic crises, however, have undercut the hopes of both workers and policy‐makers. Despite improvements in the job market since the mid‐2000s, the belief that unemployment was transitional has been replaced by a permanent state of uncertainty and consequent anxiety. Flexibility is considered the key to sustaining economic growth, and would relieve the insecurity and anxiety associated with unemployment. Policies have been modified, but they are still based on a narrowly defined concept of individual employability, which consolidates the sense of uncertainty. To address the factors contributing to the perception of permanent uncertainty among middle‐aged workers, we advocate a pragmatic approach that takes reference from the notion of flexicurity to mitigate this sense of uncertainty.
